Location, location.

Thought twice about booking having read the reviews but went ahead anyway because of the location - close to the things we wanted to do/see. We received a warm and friendly welcome at the Marina Reception and had no difficulty accessing it. We opted not to pay the extra £10 per night for showers etc. Very overpriced. This site is clearly labelled as a working farm so the tractor working nearby with a muck spreader was not a surprise. The resultant smell was unpleasant for us 'townies' but it is what farmers do at this time of the year when they can get onto the land while it is dry. We learned to live with it for our 3 days. Yes, the C/L is clearly an after-thought, the farm and the canal marina being the main businesses. The site photo shows the hard standings which have been made using re-cycled hardcore. Not very pretty but serviceable. The pitches could have been wider too. Not designed by a caravan-er? A plus is the electric and water supplies to each pitch. We didn't find a grey waste disposal but managed in the traditional way and helped alleviate the prevailing drought in doing so. The toilet emptying point was functional, better than I have seen on other C/Ls, but could benefit from a clean once in a while. A constant low hum of traffic from the M5 some distance away was evident but acceptable and offset by some very green and pleasant countryside. As to location, it was just fine. We cycled into Droitwich along the canal very easily and enjoyed this small town with its history and nice mix of old and new buildings. The National Trust's Hanbury Hall is a reasonable walk/cycle/drive away and worth a visit. So is Hanbury Church with its splendid views and a welcome supply of drinks, with an honesty box. Another short walk/cycle away is The Eagle and Sun pub that offered a very wholesome carvery at a great price. There seemed to be plenty of public footpaths to walk, although we didn't use them. Worcester City is 20 mins down the road and worth a look also. In summary, this is not a five star C/L (and never will be). Perhaps the owner should review the pricing policy for the shower block and ask a more reasonable rate? Despite this, for access to Droitwich and surrounding area it is worth considering, seasonal smells an' all.

The smelliest site we have ever encountered

I don't know how this site became a certified location. The club should review its vetting procedures. The site itself is a pleasant location and the standard charge is ok but if you want to use the marina facilities then the charge is just too much for the poor facilities offered. The pitches are ok - with water and electricity on a stand by the pitch. Grey water and chemical disposal is close by. BUT The site is located near to a group of farms and the smell from them is outrageous. It is very difficult to stay onsite because of this - it may be because of the hot weather but to me it seemed like a health hazard. I definitely would not recommend this site and would ask the club to review the procedure for bringing on board CL sites - they have failed badly with this one. Maybe they should ask a member to trial run some of these sites before taking them on. Sites like these don't do much for the club image.

Needs a little tlc

Stayed over a very wet weekend. Although hard standing, could just get van on with step on hard standing..grass very long around pitches....would have made all the difference to our stay if it had been cut. Hard to clean toilet cassette as hose for cleaning badly configured. Everybody on site like us seemed to be using marina facilities for an extra £10 per night, which although the facilities are good seems a bit much on top of £15 per night.. no grey waste disposal. Nice spot to walk/cycle canal.. site just needs some tlc to help out campers.

Did not enjoy - a few highlights do not outweigh the numerous issues. Felt unwelcome.

Just come back from here and we did not enjoy our stay. The entire caravan aspect of the site seems to be an afterthought, with the focus of the site being on the narrow boats which reside here. I felt unwelcome and unthought about in a lot of respects. First sign of this was when arriving. We pulled up and there was no obvious direction for the caravan/motorhome area. We found a reception building which seemed to be prohibiting our entry stating ‘Access to boaters only’ and was advertising the sale of boats. Despite the sign I entered anyway as there was no one else to ask. This turned out actually to be the correct place to my surprise and the man at the reception booked me in, after some issues finding our booking. I was asked to pay £15 per night, which was less than the agreed £25, so I clarified that we wanted to use the site facilities (toilet and shower block etc) at which point he said it would be £25/night. There was no map available, something I have found at every site previously, but he drew a sketch to indicate where to drive. We drove to the relevant area and found ourselves on an extremely muddy grass pitch. Not really what I was hoping for and not indicated when booking. The electric hookup and water tap at the side of the caravan are fine and very close to you, so no issues there. Shower and toilet block facilities quite good, but again signs indicating “Access for boaters only” in this area. This made me feel quite uncomfortable, I know I’ve paid extra for the privilege of using these facilities but the boat users seeing these signs must think I’m taking liberties. In terms of accessing the facilities I was given a code on a piece of paper to access this area, an investment in a digi-lock would seem to be a good idea as they are currently using something like a padlock that you might put on a suitcase - not illuminated and difficult to operate in the dark, with a sign up saying you must scramble the code after closing the gate. The footpath to/from the shower block from the caravan area, is also very difficult to see in the dark with what I would consider insufficient lighting. Having no map meant we had to figure out waste disposal points ourself (nothing at this site is signposted either) and I never found out where to put rubbish, so I had to use their dog poo bin for our caravan rubbish. This all boils down to poor information - I’ve never had such poor info before! Lastly on leaving, I went to empty out the toilet cartridge and found there was no running water to rinse it out with, not very hygienic. All in all, I would not return to this park and would actively encourage other caravan/motorhome users give it a miss. Narrow boat owners may have a different experience however.

Easter Break

On this CL as I am writing. Very easy access to site and pitches. Extremely helpful gentleman at the Marina office who gave us all the information we needed. Just enjoying our second night and would definitely use this site again. Lots to do nearby.

We like it

Just spent our second w/end this summer on this site. We really love its rural location. Its a small site of 6 hardstanding pitches each with electric & water. There is no shower / toilet block but there is a waste water disposal point, all you need for a couple of days. There is a good pub nearby where you can eat outside overlooking the canal & a 30 min. walk along the tow path to the pretty spa town. The boat yard at the site entrance can sometimes be a little noisy with the boat owners working on their boats but we did not find it a problem. For a short stay we recommend this site.

dissapointing

i'm sure when i booked it said there were showers and toilets available otherwise i would not have booked this cl , it has changed now and says there is no facilities, which is true , you cannot access the toilets or showers , there is electric and water on each hardstanding, bins are at the entrance which is nowhere near the campsite , recycling was not clear . however there were lovely walks along the tow path , the eagle and sun pub is excellent , and droitwich spa is a nice town .

Not Impressed

We were not allowed anywhere near the Marina, the narrowboats or the well built and comprehensive Toilet & shower block, it was said for 'Security Reasons'. There were 6 Caravan/Motorhomes on the site and lots of noise from angle grinding of hulls at the entrance to the CL site. We felt as if we were second class citizens and not made to feel welcome. The M5 being some half a mile away from the site there was constant background noise of the traffic day & night. We booked for three nights and only stayed two. Will not be going back!

Super CL

Stayed on this CL for 1 night on our way "up north". It was necessary to phone the mobile number on the gate but once we had made contact all was easy and pleasant. Site was super and the facitilies were exceptionally good. We'd definitely use this CL again.
