My wife and I stayed here in January, the weather had not been good and Nigel very kindly put us on the hard standing. We had a great weekend and if you like walking this is a beautiful location for walks into the historic Dedham where there are plenty of places to eat and drink. I would recommend the Dedham Boathouse, the Old Bakery Cafe.
Take the time to explore this historic village there is some evidence of Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman presence in the vicinity, By the end of the fifteenth century, when wealthy clothiers financed the building of the present church, Dedham had become a thriving industrial town. During the seventeenth century the wool trade was in serious decline but the town's importance as a centre for local trade was increased by its ecclesiastical significance. A lectureship had been set up around 1577 to preach the 'pure' word of God in this Puritan area and the lecture coinciding with the weekly market drew audiences from miles around. The Grammar School, where the celebrated painter John Constable was later a pupil, was founded at about the same time.
Nigel could not be more helpful and added to the enjoyment of our weekend.
New years day 2022
First outing this year, new years day 2022. Cross Vale Farm, a lovely CL Site. Nigel and his wife are very welcoming, had a lovely chat with them on arrival. Beautiful walks into Dedham, stopped at Boat House Cafe for coffee and cake. Will be going back, actually already booked in for March.

Nice to see the site open again!
Been visiting this site for many years when Nigel’s parents run the site. Lovely to visit again.
Nigel is most welcoming, friendly and accommodating with a great knowledge of the local area.
The site now has then added benefit of Electric hook up, and part handstands, great for visiting out of the summer season.
Lovely area to visit, walking distance of beautiful Dedham and Constable Country. The site is in an AONB, and offers access to the Stour Valley, the historic town of Colchester, dating back to the Roman times.
The coast is about 20 minutes away, the historic port of Harwich holds a wealth maritime history.
Looking forward to visiting again soon.

First caravanners to visit this recently re-opened site
We were delighted to be the first arrivals at Cross Vale Farm which has only recently been re-opened by the site owner Nigel and his wife. We received a warm welcome from Nigel who was happy to let us choose which pitch we preferred and get set up. The site is a lush green grassed area with some newly planted apple trees, flat and even. There are two grass pitches adjacent to the barn building with electric hookups and the remaining pitches are in the open field. There is a little bit of traffic noise during the day but nothing to worry about and it was perfectly peaceful at night. The access to the site is down a short drive with two turns between the outbuildings but this was easy to negotiate even for novices like us. There is no toilet or shower available. The site is excellently located for visiting Dedham (a 1.3 mile stroll across the fields from the site) and the surrounding area. We thoroughly recommend the site and thank the owners for their warm welcome and humour.
