If Carlsberg did CLs ...
Be careful that your satnav doesn't take you to the wrong farm. We followed the owner's instructions and looked for the pink house. The B6260 off the A66 is the better option as the unclassified road was wider.
Everything was clean, Val [the owner] was a delight, the views are stunning - still snow on the hills, the A66 gives plenty of options for visiting other areas, the town is only a mile and a half way - steep hill climb coming back and the unclassified roads have no pavements, the train station is on the Settle & Carlisle - we went to Whitehaven on the marvellous Cumbrian Coast train service from Carlisle. Walking opportunities are many. Or you could just relax on site.
It is a farm. In the early morning and later evening, the cattle were bellowing as they had not been turned out into the fields. We felt the bellowing added to the atmosphere. Being on the top of a hill, the weather can be different to the valley.
Toilet is in an out building and utilitarian. Information room has numerous out of date leaflets etc but Val will be updating them. No mobile phone signal for some people.
