Peace, quiet, great views
The second camping area looks out over the Amber Valley towards South Wingfield Manor. The pitches here are grassed, level and well drained. The site is only 15 minutes from junction 28 of the M1. It's on the edge of Wessington and it's only five minutes walk to the pub and chip shop across the large village green. A slightly longer walk over fields will take you to South Wingfield with its historic manor where Mary Queen of Scots was once held prisoner. The Bell Pub in South Wingfield is excellent if you enjoy real ale for a meal try The White Hart at Moorwood Moor which is about 30 minutes walk down a quiet country lane. Nearby is Crich and the tramway museum here you will also find the excellent artisan bakers shop and cafe called "The Loaf" which turns itself in to an Italian pizzeria every Wednesday night you take your own alcohol as they are not licensed. Using the car it's only 5 miles to Matlock and Matlock Bath and then you are on the edge of the Peak District with Chatswoth, Bakewell etc. I would also recommend a drive to Ashover ( you an walk to Ashover it took me about 90 minutes each way using many footpaths to shorten the route ) . Once in Ashover you must visit the Poets Corner this pub serves excellent simple food, the pies are my favourite and they also have brewery on site. I recommend a pint of the Ashover Light Rale. A great CL with lots to do.
