Great CL, ideal for relaxing or exploring

  1. We stayed at this lovely CL during the August Bank Holiday in 2017. The CL is on a working farm with friendly owners & is very clean & picturesque , with pleasant views over the countryside & nearby pond which can be fished . The CL is actually 2 CLs . One attached to the farm & one in an adjacent plot next to farm. We stayed in the CL attached to farm. Arriving on site is a little tricky as you are not allowed to use the main farm entrance due to its narrow opening. You will need to open 2 gates to gain access to the CL we were pitched on. This CL is made up of 3 spacious hard standing & 2 grass pitches. The adjacent CL is much easier to access with no gates & all 5 are hard standing. All with electric hookups. There are no facilities on site also . There is a local village green 5 mins walk up the lane with a chip shop & also a nice pub / restaurant that had a beer festival on during our stay. There are many local areas of interest to visit in the surrounding area including Matlock. We will definitely return to this site. Shame there are no facilities though.

Gambolling with the lambs

We arrived during a very busy lambing season at the farm, and we were delighted to see the new arrivals taken into the field at the bottom of this very scenic site. With Mary Queen of Scots prison Wingfield Manor opposite, you couldn't pick a more lovely location for a spring break. The busy town of Alfreton is only 10 minutes away, Matlock and Matlock Bath 20, and Chatsworth less than 30. There is plenty to do, and keen walkers can easily walk the 5-6 miles into Crich and the Tramway Museum. There is a smashing pub in easy walking distance, another down a single track road. However, locals tend to drive pretty quickly and you need to keep well in to avoid said drivers. There's a fish and chip shop in the village of Wessington, we didn't try them but other caravanners said it was very good. This CL is well deserving of its 5*, I'll definitely be back, if only to try the chippie.

A brilliant view and a level pitch, our perfect CL!

This is the best view we have ever found from a site! The pitches are level & well spaced. Plenty to do nearby, we visited Crich Tramway Museum which was very good. A great stop off on our way back from Northumberland to Sussex. We plan to visit again next year.

First time on site 2

This was our first stay on site 2, we normally use site 1. New for this year are three hard standing pitches on this site, it was previously all grass. I say 3 pitches because it seems you can use pitch 3 either as grass or HS as this is where the HS ends and the grass starts. The views from this site are slightly better than site 1 because there are no obstructions. Site 1 now has 5 HS pitches, they had just finished the new ones while we were there, though needed to finish tidying up from the work. Sorry if this is a confusing review as I wanted to show this years changes. Overall though, a lovely couple of sites in a wonderful location, nearly as nice as my nearby home village Mr Green. ;-) We hope to return very soon.

Crich Lane farm CL

We have just returned from a week at Crich Lane Farm CL. We had read the previous reviews and decided to take a punt. What a little gem! We were on pitch 1 with only one other van on site., the view over the Amber valley is lovely. once again the doom and gloom brigade at the met Offrice got it wrong and we enjoyed a lovely week. There is so much to do and seein the area. A trip to Denby pottery is a must, use your "great days out" voucher. Likewise Crich tram museum and Haddon Hall (which we didn't get to.) the local chippy is spot on and the pub not bad. We shall return

Peace, quiet, great views

The second camping area looks out over the Amber Valley towards South Wingfield Manor. The pitches here are grassed, level and well drained. The site is only 15 minutes from junction 28 of the M1. It's on the edge of Wessington and it's only five minutes walk to the pub and chip shop across the large village green. A slightly longer walk over fields will take you to South Wingfield with its historic manor where Mary Queen of Scots was once held prisoner. The Bell Pub in South Wingfield is excellent if you enjoy real ale for a meal try The White Hart at Moorwood Moor which is about 30 minutes walk down a quiet country lane. Nearby is Crich and the tramway museum here you will also find the excellent artisan bakers shop and cafe called "The Loaf" which turns itself in to an Italian pizzeria every Wednesday night you take your own alcohol as they are not licensed. Using the car it's only 5 miles to Matlock and Matlock Bath and then you are on the edge of the Peak District with Chatswoth, Bakewell etc. I would also recommend a drive to Ashover ( you an walk to Ashover it took me about 90 minutes each way using many footpaths to shorten the route ) . Once in Ashover you must visit the Poets Corner this pub serves excellent simple food, the pies are my favourite and they also have brewery on site. I recommend a pint of the Ashover Light Rale. A great CL with lots to do.

First Time But Not The Last

This was our first stay on this CL and we couldnt have found a nicer one. As previously mentioned it was a nice touch to find we had our own picnic bench on the pitch. The views from the CL are fantastic and it is really peaceful. We will definately return

Views are amazing

This is one of those CL's where you feel the owners have given just that bit extra. Each pitch, as far as I could see had its own tap as well as electricity AND wooden picnic bench. The views are amazing and there are walks in the beautiful countryside direct from the site. Access is very easy. An amazing bank holiday weekend.

friendly

Been to this CL a few times over the years, Dave and Irene are very friendly and helpfull (my clutch went on the car while on site during a bank holiday and Irene made numerous calls and found a mobile mechanic), Dave always happy to show our children eggs from the hens and talk about the dogs/ horses etc. Very pleasant surroundings. B&B on site, which is great if you want to combine your caravan holiday with some friends who dont own a van.
