Sky, Sea & Rolling Hills

We stayed for seven nights in early April. Approach is from the east along the Old Bideford Road and via a private driveway bordered by a dazzling display of Azaleas and Camellias. A very sharp and upward right turn leads to the CL where there are three hard standings; the remaining pitches slope sideways, where the grass was ankle length and the ground less even. The A39 is a short distance away, traffic noise from which is particularly noticeable during travel-to-work times. Mains water was due to be switched off for most of the second day, but Mrs Stagg thoughtfully provided a few litres of bottled water. Fresh water and waste disposal is adjacent and easy to access. There is a well-appointed WC and wash basin for the use of campers beside the farmhouse just a minute's walk away. The site occupies an elevated position giving good views north towards the River Taw estuary and hills beyond. Fremington shops are at least one a half miles away down a single track road with passing places, where there is a post office, Costcutter, Boots and Graylings fish and chip shop, which is highly recommended. During our stay the Old Bideford Road was frequently used by heavy goods vehicles which appeared to be travelling to and from a quarry about 1200 yards west of the CL. Not a problem, apart from their drivers' tendency to tailgate tardy motorists. We hope to use this site again.

Perfect for North Devon

We were presently surprised by this site. The owner was very helpful and a delightful lady. The site had three hardstandings so we did not get bogged down with the motorhome. Great views from the site. Would come again.

Lovely lady and lovely site

Stayed here for 5 nights at end of October/early November as we were helping our daughter move to Barnstaple. Mrs Stagg is a wonderful lady and is so helpful she even allowed us to park the rental moving van overnight on some hardstanding. Beautifully kept site with stunning views over the surrounding area to the estuary. The addition of some pretty alpacas and a couple of friendly cats wandering around really made it a lovely place to stay. It's perfectly situated for visiting lots of towns and villages in North Devon and you're right in the country even though Barnstaple is only a 10 minute drive away! I'm sure this will be our preferred site when visiting our daughter as there's nothing to fault it.

Beautiful and friendly site

Absolutely love this CL... beautiful views in a gorgeous part of the country and cheeky alpacas as neighbours. I received the warmest of welcomes from the lovely Mrs Stagg and am very impressed with the care that she takes with the site and her guests. I saw her out several times tending to the stunning flower borders along the drive and keeping the alpacas fed and the toilets clean and well stocked. I have a friend in the area, so was able to enjoy exploring Barnstaple, Instow and Appledore in her car. Be sure to follow the directions given below and beware satnavs that lead you right through Bickington and Fremington and then point you left along a very narrow road with passing points! My fault entirely - I'll know better next time, as the route described below is completely straightforward. Will definitely stay here again without a doubt. Happy birthday to Mrs Stagg and thank you for a lovely stay!

Very Relaxing

Site is easy to find & the roads are good. We walked down to Fremington Quay & enjoyed a huge cream tea! To walk to Fremington you can walk down the lanes for approx 20 minutes & then through woodland where you can let your dogs off their leads for a good run around. Well worth buying an OS map for the area. Site is quiet with lovely views & the location is a great base for visiting the N Devon coastline. Sainsburys is the closest supermarket with Morrisons a little further in Bideford. Just be aware that after turning into the farm lane & approaching the farm house you turn a sharp right into the site. This is a lovely site & would definitely visit again when in the area.

Estuary Views

Stayed here early June, the views from the site are lovely, I can imagine that the site would have been even better had we had better weather. Agree with another comment that there is nowhere to walk with the dog, but five minutes in your car and you have dog friendly beaches. We loved visiting Barnstable and the local areas altogether a very nice site to stay at. The owner is a very pleasant lady and was lovely to talk to. Will certainly visit again.

Access

Fellow caravaners ... please note this site is NOT suitable for twin axel vans. The steep climb to the caravan plots cost us dearly in a replacement clutch costing us over £1000.00. But if you travel in smaller vans the site and owner are perfect.  I strongly feel this should be in the description of the site.

Long weekend visit

We do a lot of long weekend trips in our motorhome and this site was just right for us being just over an hour away. The owner Mrs Stagg is a lovely lady. The area is great and I'm sure in the warmer and better weather (blowing a gale while we were there) is even better. The nearby beach at Instow is brilliant for walking dogs when the tide is out and the Tarka trail great too. If I have one gripe it's that there are no nearby footpaths from the site, if there is we didn't find them, and that's only because we have three dogs to walk so probably wouldn't worry other visitors to this lovely well maintained site.

Devon delight

We stayed here for four nights in September and what a beautiful place. The pitching is thoughtfully laid out with fantastic views across the valley to the rolling hills. Handy for visiting the local areas, Clovelly being a must see. Mrs Stagg was the icing on the cake for us, an amazing, energetic lady, so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Her garden is beautiful and has a century old fig tree. We will definitely return when next in the area.
