Ease of arrival/welcome

North West Sutherland in June

Accessing this CL near Durness does mean using single track roads, whichever direction you are coming from. On arrival the CL entrance is downhill off the road, past the cafe and into a small open area, with hard standings marked out, three at an upper level and the other two lower down. None of the pitches seem to be completely level so it’s best to be prepared for some work to level up, if that’s important to you. The on site water, waste and disposal points are all grouped around the entrance gate, though the electrical distribution points are closely positioned for the upper pitches, from the lower pitches a normal length cable will just reach up across the grass to the shared outlet points above. Views across Loch Eriboll are pretty much uninterrupted, and completely unspoilt. So this really is a rural idyll, as you are almost unaware of any passing traffic on the roadway and the site itself is peaceful and quiet. The owner is a mine of information about the locality and its history. Durness is nearby, with a well stocked Spar shop and 24hr fuel opposite. We managed a walk out to Faraid Head, which gives great views of the coastline and inlets, as well as the Smoo cave complex, and a walk around some fields commemorating the Highland clearances of the mid 1800s - plenty of interest here. And a zip wire close by - if you’re brave enough for it !
