Dog Friendly? 🤔

Stunning scenery and well-equipped pitches. I had enjoyed a previous stay here with my 3 dogs and since then the site has been improved with generous hard-standings for all pitches. There are many walks from the site and laminated maps of various routes are available. It is pheasant country so dogs will mainly have to be walked on a lead. There are no dedicated dog poo bins onsite so that has to be placed with general rubbish. Whilst extolling the virtues of this site, I feel I need to make a comment for other people with dogs who may consider staying here. I expect there will be a counter argument from the site owner but, as a dog owner, I would want to know others’ experiences when reading a review. I had explained that I had 3 dogs that I was bringing with me and this was accepted despite the apparent 2 dog rule. One of my dogs barked four times during our 2 night stay and each time was quickly quietened. My other 2 dogs didn’t bark. After the 2nd bark (the day after I’d arrived) I received a text asking me to keep them quiet and reminding me that they don’t usually allow 3 dogs on a pitch. This did make me feel quite uncomfortable for the rest of my stay - particularly when 2 horse boxes parked up for the day directly in front of my caravan. I spent the day with the blinds pulled down to avoid any upset. FYI I am concerned to be a responsible dog owner and appreciate that others do not want to hear my dogs. My young dog has a “Quiet” command which she quickly responds to when necessary, although I barely needed it during my stay. I would suggest, if you have more than two dogs and there is a chance that they may bark more than once during your stay, you may need to carefully consider if this is the site for you.

Thank you for your feedback. We love dogs and have two of our own.  The site is excellent for many dog walks in the Chilterns.  There are just a few specific places at certain time of the year when we advise that they are on leads.

During the months of September and October, many parts of the UK countryside have pheasants roaming, so we are not unusual and like to maintain good relations with our neighbouring farm that rears pheasants.

We have never felt the need for dedicated Dog Poo bins as we like to keep things simple and our local council is happy with dog poo (suitably bagged) in the main waste bin.

Our primary concern as site owners is to 'keep the peace' for all visitors. Hence when a couple of other visitors complain to me about barking dogs, I have a 'quiet word' with those responsible.

Needless to say, we will be more strictly enforcing the 2 dog limit for all future visitors without exception.

We apologise that a horsebox inadvertently parked for a couple of hours in your line of sight.  This was a genuine error and we will be looking to add additional signage to prevent this happening again.
