Take Care on Exit

A lovely site with a warm welcome from Ted and Jackie, the pitches are well spaced and close to the two water points. walks are all around you and local maps are available some are quick and easy some are harder if you are up to it, we did a longer walk some 7.5 miles with a pub stop on the way. The Chiltern Walk is close by and the Red Kites are everywhere, however waiting for them to show you the fantastic markings on their backs is more difficult. The EHU works on 10 units of electricity is included in your daily allowance but we never went over even though the extra charge per unit is only 17p If like us you have a long twin axle caravan I would think twice about using the site due to a risk of grounding on exit from the farm, we did gound our Lunar Delta causing some rear end damage, it's not the 7.885 metres(25' 10'') but in my estimation the ground clearance, we had a Elldis Storm T/A which was 8.03 metres and never had a grounding problem Ted I understand is taking steps to warn people when they book as to the risk of grounding long caravans. I would like to thank Ted and his son for all their help in solving our problem, also available via Ted has contact with a dog walking service from Sophie which helped us when we went to a trip into London. We hope the information helps you to book with confidence

Response from the Club:

Many thanks for your very positive review of Cholsey Grange Club Site and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry to read you had an issue with exiting the site. Ted, the CL owner, has been in touch as he wants to ensure everyone has the best possible time when staying with them and appreciates your feedback. They have, for many years, accepted long and twin-wheel outfits and have not had any similar issues in the past so Ted was very sorry to hear that this occurred. Should other members have any concerns, please be assured there is a slightly different route (via the site’s stable yard) on exit which will avoid any issues and the CL owners are happy to help wherever they can. Thank you again for your review and the CL Owners are looking forward to hopefully greeting you again soon.

Crusader, Thank you for your lovely review and we are delighted you enjoyed our site, the mapped walks, wildlife and well-spaced pitches and dog-walking service.

For next year we hope to add hard-standing pitches and Service Points.

Regarding the 'grounding' issue, yours outfit was a particularly long Twin Wheel caravan.  We have rarely had any issues on exit. It might have something to do with towbar height.  In fact this week we had a similar van here, towed by a Jeep (which can lower its suspension).

In any event, we have a solution to hand should you wish to bring a particularly long twin-wheel caravan and have a concern, which simply means taking a slightly different route (via our yard) on exit.

With regard to the 17p/KwH for any usage (very rare in the summer season) of EHU over 10KwH/pitch night, this is the cost-price of our commercial supply including VAT for our 3-phase supply to the farm (which allows us to provide 16A to the Pitches). If you wish to review our electricity invoices, or can find us a cheaper supplier you are welcome to do so!

Thanks Ted the damage to the van was awning rails and  a section  under the tail end of the van, I thought other caravan twin axle should be made aware of our problem as they may have the same problem. Your exit diversion sounds like a good idea wink and would have no hesitation in recommending your site, as to the electric we did not have a problem and my Jeep cannot lower it's suspension

You may find this of interest:

It would be good if overall you could reduce the cost of your supply/

DD  it's only if you go over the nightly allowance thats included in the site fee No big deal, if you want limitless electric book into a club site but the nightly site fee would be much higher. And no Red Kites frown

It's a pity we were not offered the alternative route upon leaving and our van is a normal length for a twin axle cry
