Midsummer heat !

Final approach to this CL is pretty much as described in the handbook. That right turn just past the left turn into Westmeads Drive is a narrow turning between two sets of bollards where there is also a green public footpath sign. These quickly bring you to halt in front of a remote controlled gate. From there you get directed by phone along the lane to the house and then into the site, which is great because this access lane is narrow ! The welcome was friendly, attentive and accommodating. The site is a large tree lined and well sheltered rectangular meadow with pitch markers appropriately placed along the far long side. Pitch occupancy was fairly full during our stay, but you would expect that at a CL in this area during midsummer. We did not feel in any way crowded in as the pitch spacing was generous, allowing freedom for toddlers or to walk the dog. Water and chemical tipping are well set out around the toilet/shower building which is near the house. Water pressure on the low side ! The toilets and showers were adequate and fairly clean, with Covid protocols in place. This site is quiet ! There is some distant road noise during daytime but this subsides during the evening and overnight. The location has quite a rural feel to it, with chickens kept in the owner's garden. And there is little or no sense from within the site of any proximity to a residential area. The grass was cut during our brief 2-night stay. Because this is a meadow (not a lawn) the grass was maybe a little bit on the long side when we arrived - just something to be aware of if you are venturing across from the pitch to the facilities before the sun had burnt off early morning dew. During hot dry spells there's a balance needed here about cutting frequency. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The weather was hot & dry, and the sea water temperature permitted us to dip more than a toe in !! Parking is straightforward at the Aldwick end of Bognor, or there's Pagham and then Wittering further along - it's a personal choice between a quieter/pebbly or a crowded/sandy beach ? For us, we have a roof mounted solar panel so a weekend break without a mains hookup in midsummer is quite acceptable, with the only challenge to make sure we were phone charging while driving. Staying at the extremes of the season might require a bit more strategy ? The pitch fee generously reflects the omission of a hook up !
