Lovely location, close to the beach, sea views

Lovely open field, with just enough elevation to be able to see the sea from your pitch. Quiet gravel lane leads to beach, 5 minutes walk away. The beach is golden sand, man made as a sea defense, but looks totally natural. No hook up, but that's no problem, all other normal facilities good and well organised, and good to have proper recycling facilities. Didn't see the owner, having booked and paid online, which made things easy, (be great if CAMC could help facilitate an online booking and payment system for all CLs). Short walk to the shop and excellent chippy!

Tranquil Buttercup Meadow

We got a lovely welcome from Tom and Wendy, it was the start of a lovely weekend. Walks to the beautiful beach and relaxing in the peaceful field. It's an "off grid" location but has everything you basically need, water, waste disposal and information leaflets. Got local made cakes from the "superstore" just down the road, that were yummy. We were very lucky , the weather was glorious and we walked with the dogs to the long sandy beach, just 5 minutes walk, which even in height of season was very quiet. Lots of wild birds with the natural habitats which have been left unspoilt. With only 2 caravans, 2 motorhomes and us, we didn't feel crowded in, something we have not been used to because we usually go to more commercial camps, but not any more. We will definitely be returning. And probably more often because it is so reasonable, they only charge for the van, and no hidden charges. A little bit of paradise for us....in fact, not really sure I should be sharing this little gem right on the coast.

A Hidden Gem in Beautiful Norfolk

Buttercup Meadow is easy to find, it's opposite the village school off the layby (try not to arrive when the children are being picked up as manoeuvring past the parents' cars can be a bit tricky). Tom and Wendy always make us feel most welcome, with Wendy greeting us with 'welcome home' and it does really feel like a home from home. The site is quite spacious and the sea can be seen from it, along with the relaxing sounds of the waves. The site is very quiet and peaceful, a place to relax and unwind, read or just listen and watch the birds. The beach is a five minute walk through the gate on-site, down a sandy track. The dogs love racing around the beach and its normally quiet down there. Great place to go sea fishing (beach casting). Tom and Wendy put the daily tide times on the notice board. Friendly local fishermen are always full of advice and very helpful. A ten minute walk along the beach leads to the fab pub, the Poachers Pocket, which do a great Sunday carvery and a tasty nut cutlet too. Local amenities include a medium sized well stocked shop, fish and chip shop, ice cream parlour, a great local craft shop and a vegan cafe. Its a shame we have to rate this site so high as it really is a hidden gem, but feel that others need to come and enjoy Buttercup Meadow too.

WIndblown weekend

Stayed here over the May bank holiday weekend. Advisable not to rely on sat nav - it will take you up the lane just beyond the lay by you need to enter through. It leads to the same destination - but you would have a sharp turn left then an even sharper turn right to get to the gate leading to the CL field. The CAMC app gives clear instructions on directions BUT just be aware - if you bring up the map on the CAMC app - Google maps brings up an address just outside Doncaster - so don't rely on the map!! Tom texts you the combination to the padlocked gate on the day of your arrival. For whatever reason the text didn't come up on my phone until it was too late - but no problem - Trev rang up his mobile and down Tom came to let us in. There were no "mod cons" on the site - but that didn't matter - it had the basics required. The sea was just visible on the horizon - and there was plenty of open space in which to pitch your outfit. The site had a private gate through which to pass to walk up to the beach - a 100m or so walk. The weekend was certainly a windy one - 45mph+ winds - but that didn't stop us enjoying our weekend - we even managed a very wind blown and extremely wet BBQ. We walked along the - very blustery - sea front on our first day - to the village of Walcott - where we found a very well stocked village store/post office. Although not a great deal to see in the local area, the Old Vicarage Gardens at East Ruston and Happisburgh Lighthouse are both worth a visit - and within easy cycling distance of the CL. There are lots of walks in the local area, but being cyclists we took to the roads and found lots of little country lanes to cycle down (some national cycle route 30). If you want a peaceful, relaxing few days away, then this CL is ideal.

An absolute unique gem of a site but set in an indifferent/poor area of Norfolk

Tom and Wendy love this site of theirs and I/we can fully understand as it is an absolute gem of a site but having said that it is oh so sadly in such a poor and generally unloved part of Norfolk! Buttercup Meadow is a beautiful site and only a relative few yards from the beach, but the concrete Norfolk sea defences, built in the 1950's are in a sad condition and are in places very dangerous, as are also the wooden sea brakes. There were several land based coastal fisherman on view at the appropriate times of the tidal flow, all pulling out decent numbers of fish,so for the coastal fisherman amongst you, then this is an excellent and very affordable site to stop at. A relative short coastal walk away from the site is the local pub known as the "POACHERS POCKET". It serves some not too bad food and some quite nice beers, but from the coastal walk side, it looks more like a cafe than a pub. It also offers an pen welcome to our four legged friends which for us is an all important must.

Lovely Site

Peace and quiet, within walking distance of great cafe and pub and a small but well stocked supermarket. Just a few minutes walk to the beach. A secure site in a field overlooking the coast with good sunset views, plus locked gates so no worries when you are away from your vehicle. Site is perfect for those who are self sufficient and with no need for hook up etc.. Thank you Tom and Wendy. We will be visiting again

What a Joy,

Peace and quiet, within walking distance of eateries and a small but well stocked supermarket. Just a few minutes walk to the beach. The CL is secure with locked gates so no worries when you are away from your vehicle. All the facilities you would expect form a CL without electric. Perfect for those who are self sufficient. Tom the CL owner is really helpful. We will be visiting again

One of our favorite CLs

Just back from our latest visit to this great CL. Superb location, a short walk to the beach. CL is well kept and a pleasure to stay on. John the site manager is very helpful and a lovely guy. Our children and little doggie love it.
