4 days of peace and quiet

We have just returned from spending 4 nights at Judith’s haven of peace. She has a wealth of knowledge of the area especially the gardens, particularly useful to us being keen visitors. We found her advice very helpful and her recommendations were spot on for all of the places we travelled to. The site is well placed for touring the area which we found beautiful and well worth visiting. The facilities are clean and tidy and Judith is putting a lot of effort into landscaping the surroundings with water features that will attract wildlife. The views are amazing with rolling countryside, herds of cattle and flocks of sheep being the only signs of life. The sea is to be seen in the distance but is only a few minutes away and there are many small harbours and beaches close by. Having only scratched the surface we will be back.

Outstanding Location & Hospitality

We had a fantastic 7 night stay during the month August 2020. We were after a small quiet site with a view and Burgess Outon Farm did not disappoint. Lots of places to explore in the area with the site itself perfect for as a place to unwind The facilities were clean and the site is very well kept, we shall most definitely be visiting Burgess Outon Farm again very soon.

Beautiful views

Just spent 2 nights on this peaceful, well kept site that has stunning views over the Solway and North to the Forest of Galloway hills. A warm, friendly welcome from Mrs Noble who is knowledgeable about this area. Wonderful coastline, interesting towns and harbours and very quiet roads. Entertainment in the form of Olly the cat and cattle in the adjacent fields!

OUTSTANDING - superb views and terrific welcome

This CL is an AMAZING position. Pitch your van and look out to sea! Pitch the other way and look to those hills! PEACE, TRANQUILITY - what more do you want? Mrs Noble is a splendid host who makes you so VERY welcome on arrival and throughout your stay. She is happy to advise re good walks and places to visit. Or if you prefer she leaves you to enjoy the peace of the wonderful countryside. Yes there is a minor issue with having to lift the wastewater container up a couple of feet to empty BUT if this is a problem to you then ask and Mrs Noble would allow you to empty in the hedges. The area is very scenic and we had no difficulty finding places to go and see. We walked every day too. If you require shops (other than the basic food shops) this may not be the area for you!! Daily essentials (milk, bread etc) can be found in Whithorn. Petrol is available there too (at a premium) The roads in the area are narrow but quite, very suitable for cyclists. WALKING is somewhat of a challenge in Scotland as there are no footpaths marked on OS maps! It is said you can walk ANYWHERE! Don't believe it! Get advice from the friendly locals. Places to eat can be found in Whithorn but try the Pheasant at Sorbie (about 5 miles) if thou fancy a superb italian meal at very reasonable cost. Very good cafe at The Whithorn Centre and also at the Isle of Whithorn (St Ninian's Tearoom) We hope to return.Highly recommended. Members WE need to use this site (and others like it) or we will lose it - YOUR support will help.

Only 2 miles from the club site at Garlieston – but stay here instead.

Previous contributors have got it right. It's a pearl! Judith is a good host and helped us solve a couple of problems that arose. Typical Yorkshire hospitality! The views are outstanding and we were blessed with lovely weather (mostly) for our 6-day stay in September 2016. Access is via fairly wide lanes with little traffic; the swing into and out of the site is straight forward (we have a 13m rig). Once on site, the breeze can be a bit brisk and a conventional awning (we left ours at home) would have been a bit tricky to put up or take down. The facilities are first rate: 5 or 6 flagstones around the tap (no mud) and the enclosed concrete area with bins and toilet sluice are also mud-free. It is necessary to lift your grey water container about 350mm to empty it – so if you use a 45 or 50 litre waste-away/waste-master… don’t let it get too full if you cannot lift 45kg. The field (its more of a garden) is gently sloping and would require levelling kit in some corners – we managed without. The DAB signal was a bit patchy on some channels – but Radio 4 and 5 came through clearly. We didn’t try the TV signal… with views like these, why would you want to? The 3 phone network was pretty poor (but it always is away from main roads and big cities), the O2 signal was good for SMS and ’phonecalls… data was ponderous but worked eventually for email and ‘low demand’ items. We are “softy” cyclists and the nearby coasts are generally level; the Forestry Commission “ride” at Kilsture is gentle and relatively mud-free but with a real wilderness feel to it! While in the area you should pop down to Garlieston (pretty sea-side village) and look at the more conventional caravanners crammed on to the club site, paying loads more than you and having to smell each-other’s bacon and listen to each-others TV sets. Chacun à son goût. Wigtown is a little gem (20 minutes north by car) and the book festival is a peach. While we were here we enjoyed beach-combing, “beltie” spotting and we saw a red squirrel… wow! We’ll be back!

Beautiful spot

Very remiss of me not to have reviewed this site before because it is lovely. We stayed here in July of 2015 for 5 nights and for most of that time we were on our own. The owners are extremely nice people and were quite happy to stop for a chat. The site has almost 360 degree views, the house itself being the only thing in the way. There are views back towards Newton Stewart and the mountains, across towards the Lake District, which we did see one day over the water, and around to the Isle of Man. The Isle of Whithorn is very attractive especially on a sunny day, as is Garlieston. A short way along the road from Garlieston is the entrance to the Galloway House gardens, and from there is a lovely walk along the shoreline and up through the woods to the top of Cruggleton cliffs and the small remaining ruins of Cruggleton Castle. It's a long way along the drive to the start of the walk but there is a car park and it's a very good idea to drive there, bearing in mind the walk that follows. All in all, we had an extremely pleasant and relaxing time there.

What a view

What a beautiful well kept site. We have just had the most relaxing week possible. The view from our front windows was across lovely pastures and the sea with amazing sunrises. The evenings provided very clear starry nights. Being March we were very lucky to have bright sunny days but the breeze kept things very cold. There are many coastal walks to enjoy and lots of history to absorb. The Isle Of Whithorn is very pretty and has an excellent pub on the harbour and a lovely new cafe in the community centre. We were warmly welcomed by Derek and Judith who just happen to be from our home town of Huddersfield. If you like great views and peace and quiet you will love this site

This is a gem of a location

We recieved a very friendly, but not overpowering welcome to a well kept site with superb views. If you want to chill out this is the spot. Our only regret is it is 300 miles from home otherwise we would be very regular users.
