Think therei s a conflict of interest at this site
Recently arrived here for a 7 nite stay with two other caravanning couples, the approach roads and access were fine and the welcome from the lady owner was very good and friendly, we were allocated pitches 2,3 & 4.
However, on pitching up we were immediately aware of a constant noise coming from one of the adjacent farm buildings and on discussing this with another couple already on site found out the noise continued 24 hours a day. We mentioned this to the lady owner who was understanding and said she would see if it could be turned down a bit at nite but confirmed it could not be turned off completely. Apparently the building houses a timber drying unit and is involved in the production of wood chips/pellets and they have made a very big investment in the business. We said we would see how it went for a nite and she helpfully told us of another CL down the road if the noise proved unacceptable.
Early evening though, the whole CL was suddenly engulfed in thick wood smoke coming from one of two stainless steel chimneys on the building, and I am not being overly dramatic in saying our clothes and vans stank of it and our throats were getting sore. I went to the farmhouse and saw a nice chap who was very apologetic and said it should not be doing that and that he would shut the unit down. After about an hour and another 2 trips to the house there was still some smoke but the chap said to give it time and the smoke should stop.
At this point we decided the site was not for us and rang round and managed to find another CL with 3 pitches. I told the farmer we were leaving and he apologised and did not try to charge us or anything. So we left that nite and got to our new CL about 10pm that evening.
In summary I would say the smoke may be an occasional occurrence and affected by the wind direction but the noise is constant and noticeable, certainly on those three pitches.
Nice owners but conflict of business interests here.
