Value for money?
We booked this campsite at the last minute as, for a number of reasons, we chose to cancel a previous booking we had made at another CL in the area. This CL was the only one in the area that had an available pitch. After the weekend though, we had the place mostly to ourselves. Due to the very high fees charged we had very high expectations of this CL. From pitch 5 where we were there are lovely views and at first it was very quiet. However a couple of days later the wind must have changed direction and we were surprised to be able to hear road noise and were puzzled as to which road it was we could hear as the traffic sounded near enough a constant stream. It wasn't loud enough to be a nuisance, just surprising when it had previously been so quiet and other people had commented on how peaceful the site is. Also, due to being in Sussex, there is always the noise of aircraft in the distance, but it's very low level and after a while you don't notice it. The first jets of the day, however, start taking off/landing at 5.30am. One noise that did grate somewhat after a while was the amount of shooting going on in the near vicinity at all times of the day, sunrise to sunset, and even in the pouring rain! So all in all I’d only give the site three stars for peace and quiet. In the middle of the night though you could hear a pin drop. The wooden chalet that houses the loos & shower is new and pristine. The shower cubicle is nice and roomy but the door opens outwards and as a result the floor outside gets very wet. This wouldn't be a problem if the mop supplied was up to the job but I found I had to use some paper towels from one of the loo cubicles to mop up the floor properly. I like to leave facilities as I find them and it was very difficult to do so with just the sponge mop supplied. As a result, I only used the shower once, preferring to use our own facilities instead. Around pitches 4 & 5, and off the hardstandings, the ground is very rough looking, patchy, stoney and uneven, so not what you would call a lawned site. The black waste disposal is high off the ground, which is not a problem for emptying toilet cassettes but it is also signed that it is to be used for grey waste disposal as well. If you have the popular, flat, wheeled type grey waste container, that holds about 40 litres, it is very awkward to have to lift it that high to empty it. Free, available WiFi was a definite plus point as far as we were concerned but we were disappointed to find that we could not obtain a strong enough signal on pitch 5. I spoke to the owner who said he would speak to his IT advisor. The owner said he was surprised as there had been a good signal at that end of the campsite in April when the WiFi was set up and that it must be something to do with leaves on the trees. The surrounding area around the site is beautiful and there are footpaths to explore leading off from the site itself. The nearest pub is only a few minutes drive.
Comment from The Club:
Many thanks for leaving a review for Bow Hill Farm CL Site. The CL owner has contacted us as he wishes to address your concerns.
Firstly, he is sorry to hear you experienced problems with noise, this has not been reported as an issue before and this is normally a very peaceful site in the countryside, with Gatwick being 60 miles away.
To clarify, as per the site description, the site is not on a lawn but is located on fields. The CL owner would like to assure you he has taken note of your feedback regarding the grey water disposal and will be adding a ground level drain point. He will also be adding a signal booster for the Wi-Fi to pitches 4 and 5. Unfortunately the door to the washrooms has to open outwards as otherwise there would not be room to access the cubicle.
I hope this helps address some of your concerns and thank you again for taking the time to leave a review. Please be assured you can always speak to the CL owner whilst on site who is always happy to help so that members have the best possible time at their CL Site.
