Ease of arrival/welcome

Disappointing compared to our previous visit

We first visited this site in May 2018 and it reflected many of the comments of previous visitors, great views, nice big pitches and first class facilities. A perfect relaxing week away. We booked in November for a return trip in May 2019. Our hearts sank upon arrival. Unbeknown to us the owner had relocated pitches 2 and 3. We were allocated Pitch 2. Whilst the relocation was even better for the wide open views, the pitch itself was surrounded by rubble, the grass areas completely immature (probably due to the dry Spring) and was full of mud, sand and plastic bits. The “grass area” was certainly not a place where you could lay out your chairs and tables. These 2 pitches were a real contrast to the other 3 pitches that are unchanged. Given that we are all paying top CL prices for this site, the contrast is so huge you would feel as though you had the bad end of the deal. We were booked for the week, but we decided that we would stay one night and move on. The exchange with the owner was not entirely reasonable and didn’t clearly want to hear our views, and we were told to leave the site within the hour. We did, and unfortunately as much as 2018 was such a memorable time, we will not be returning.

Unfortunately this customer felt his 10x8m pitch which has been moved forward some 10 metres to give an either greater view of the farmland and the South Downs was not acceptable due to the fact that the grass seed sown in the autumn had not established to a thick green lush finish in time for his stay. He refused to pay the balance of his 6 night booking but still felt he could rough it at our facility for one night. I therefore asked him to leave. There is a new road constructed of hardcore leading to pitch 2 and 3 which customers will appreciate in wetter times, but there is no rubble. Anyway the grass will grow, the views will continue to show the countryside at its best and the gentlemen is correct, he won’t be returning.
