All our yesterdays

This site took us back a few years! First time in years without ehu. Through a gate ( bit tricky coming from Tring unless you get well over) down a lane and into the well kept field. Three sides hedged and one side overlooking a meadow full of wild flowers. Tap and waste disposal nothing else except space and peace. Owner calls for his six pounds a night . Think I will be back!!

Great - don't tell a soul!

My visit was for 4 days during October 2015.  The colours in the trees and hedgerows around this site were fantastic.  Some of them were edible - the hedges were dripping with overripe blackberries.  Yum yum!  The ground is gently sloping and I had to use the first “step” of a ramp to site the van at the point with the best view – but most of the CL would be usable without. The lowest corner of the field should be avoided if there is a threat of rain...  movers are well known for getting caravans out of boggy fields – especially if you (like me) don’t have a 4WD. But would you have enough “juice” in your battery after 4 or 5 days “off grid”?  Should I get a solar panel to keep the battery in trim… mmm maybe. The amenities are great – ’though one of 2 the drinking water taps is a bit high up.  The loo disposal is easily manageable and the bins are in a fenced enclosure. I did not try the TV signal – the telly is a bit thirsty when one is “off grid” – but the DAB radio signal was spot on.  The phone signal on O2 was consistently good enough for calls and SMS – but a bit patchy for surfing.  The 3 network was consistently good for the interweb – but signal strength for calls was poor most of the time.  Don't ask me why! The most amazing thing about my trip was the fact that all 3 vans on the site were Hymer outfits.  I rarely share a site with another enthusiast.. but 3 in one CL has to be something of a record. The site owner was charming and helpful.  He made numerous suggestions about local visits – alas my 4 day visit was already full of family obligations so I was unable to follow his advice.  So I will have to go back and walk the Ridgeway, visit all the local stately homes, obelisks and museums.  I can’t wait. Is there a downside?  Mmmm maybe.  My 4.9m car pulling 7.4m of caravan is a bit of a tricky swing in and out of the gate.  But its worth it for 6 quid a night.  D’you know there some people who go to club sites and pay over £25.  And they think I’m bonkers.

Midsomer motor home magic

a perfect site for people who like tranquillity and are happy to manage without hook up, loos and loads of noise and regulations round them. A lovely level field, with water and waste disposal. Easy access onto the Ridgway for perfect dog walking, and a great location for touring Midsomer Murders country. At £6 a night it is the bargain of the year. Owner very friendly and helpful.

A good find

This was a little gem, a lovely field with basic facilities, but we saw plenty of wildlife including red kites and a buzzard which came down in the field beside the van. There are plenty of walks from the site one of which took us to the Grand Union canal. The owner was friendly and walked his dogs over every day. We were only there 2 nights but would liked to have stayed longer.
