Pleasant CL

We stayed here for 5 nights mid February 2019. Field was very wet but the owner towed us onto the field and some paving slab hard standing, so all was good. Very helpful owners. Beautiful view of fields, sheep and a horse from our van. The facilities were all adequate although minimal recycling. Easy access to site and also to surrounding area. The South Downs are stunning and when travelling to Uppark and Petworth etc. we chose the smaller roads through picturesque little villages. Lots of walking areas around and about. We will return to do lots more.

Well worth a visit

We have stayed numerous times here, we have stayed on other cl's but always come back to this one in the area. Always a warm welcome nothing is too much trouble. Grass is always cut and spacing is good between pitches and electric points in ideal places. We have 2 children and they loved playing in the middle of the field and seeing the birds, horses. When we stayed there was a festival/party going on at the end of the road and we could hear it during the day but it just added to the fun we played name that tune!!!!! Access is easy into the site enough room to pull off into drive and open gate even with a large twin axle. Owner asks for a 2 night deposit which I totally agree with.

GREAT COUNTRY CL

Having just returned from our 7th or 8th visit to Ashling Lodge, I can only assume that the previous reviewer was thinking of another CL!. Ashling Lodge is set in lovely surroundings, the owners are very friendly and helpful (will lend you a mains extension lead if you ask). Our grandchildren love it as do adult friends who have used the site. It is set next to a working farm and stables and within 10 miles there are great places to visit - beaches, Chichester, Bosham, Fishbourne Roman Palace, Arundel etc. So, it is does not have "lawned" pitches but the grass is trimmed regularly. I would have assumed that the hard standing was more likely to be used by camper vans that caravans. All in all, a great country CL with lots going for it. If it was not, we would not have gone back so many times!!!

A let down

This is definitely a no frills CL. The field is quite large but the layout for electricity points doesn't make use of the full field. The "part hardstanding " is just two rows of pavers roughly laid where you would put your tyres on which is a bit pointless as you would still need to drive on the grass and still get stuck should it be very wet. The ground is rough grass with lots of bumps and holes so putting our groundsheet down I had to level the bumps and fill in the holes as it was an accident waiting to happen. There also appeared to be an old trailer dumped in one corner and a bag of gravel in another area. For £13 a night I would have expected the site to be well groomed but it wasnt. We've stayed on much better for less. Needless to say we won't be returning and would recommend anyone to use this site as a very last resort.

Nice site

We visited this site in early February 2016 when very wet. Stayed on hard standing and no problem. Lovely views of the horses in fields and all different birds. Water easy to get, electrics good no going off. Elsan emptying could have been better but owner said being upgraded in the summer. Mr Pope very helpful. Would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful CL. Will be booking again.

Lovely Site

This was my first trip after buying my camper van and joining the Caravan Club so I really was a true (and nervous) rookie. However, I needn't have worried as from their helpfulness during the booking process, their flexibility around arrival times and the relaxing, peaceful stay on site Mr & Mrs Pope made it all so easy for me, a solo traveller, and my dog, Hetty. The site is lovely....rural not manicured and surrounded by woods with horses in the adjoining fields making a great place to chill out. I wish I could say the same about the Caravan Club main sites I stayed on which (maybe I dropped unlucky) I found to be unfriendly, unhelpful and inflexible....I'm hoping Ashling Lodge is more representative of a Caravan Club experience than the others were! Thank you Mr & Mrs Pope I will definitely be back.

Nice site...

Must write to offer some balance to other reviews. Just returned after a week here in oct 12. Grass was as good as anywhere, ground wet but not muddy even after heavy rain, perfectly pleasant green field with only a very gentle slope, surrounded by woods and horse paddocks. Nice outlook. Not a lot of hardstanding options, but fine for our 4x4 combination on the grass. Easy access from the road, good driveway with gate passing front of house for security, but once on CL completely unoverlooked from anywhere, inc road. Owner ensured everything ok, was around if needed but not intrusive. Yes hook ups could be better spaced, a long lead is useful if you want to make use of whole site - but electricity supply is good amperage, no trip out problems. Water tap fine and not overgrown, only small gripes are that wc emptying point is awkward, as has been said, and also (surprisingly) mobile phone coverage and 3G is very poor just here. Bit of a dead spot it seems! This is a perfectly good CL ( have seen much worse!) . Would def go back.

We do not recommend this CL

We stayed on this Cl in June 2012 and were disapointed with the quality and value for money. The grass was long with the dead grass on the top which trod into the van, We appreciate that the weather this year has not been good but even after a few dry days the grass was not cut although the owner cut his own lawns at the house. The toilet emptying point is a four inch pipe at waist height which is very difficult to use and the pipe for rinsing will not stay on the tap.The water point was poor -surrounded by a hedge that needed cutting back and long grass underneath. Electic points badly positioned which meant that one van had to use two cables. The owner charges £1 per night extra for long vans. We found this site the worst value for money we have stayed on.
