A beautiful and peaceful site well located for the Borders

As others have said, this is a beautiful and tranquil site deep in the countryside but still close to the main Borders attractions. Facilities are all that you need on a CL with a nice clean toilet. We didn’t see the hosts but much enjoyed chatting with their very pleasant garden team. There is a need for some levelling but the hosts thoughtfully provide nice big wooden blocks. We didn’t see the Otters reputedly in the burn - so need to come back! Highly recommended - but do turn in carefully between the stone gateposts.

A perfect stay

This is a lovely peaceful site in a beautiful setting, you can hear the river as it makes it way down stream. Watch the swallows swoop over the fields and the buzzards soar over head. the sheep in the next field were also very friendly. The site does have a slight slope but don't let this put you of visiting.

Amazing CL in the Scottish Borders

If you like pitching up in a tranquil, tucked away, well maintained CL then book this one. Plenty of room all everyone and superbly maintained. All the usual facilities with an additional WC. Look out for the bird footprints in the concrete floor. If the host does not visit you, then you get a chance to see their beautiful gardens when you go to pay. Note: if your rig is lengthy (ie 40 ft) then take care at the road entry/exit. Stone gateposts can bite!

Great All round site!

This is a beautiful, tidy and well set out cl. Lawned grass frequently close cut and collected. Water, waste and chemical waste area central, all excellently set up with rinsing etc. Spotless toilet area. Slight slope to wonderful view of river and wooded bank. Great for wildlife, kingfishers etc, with manicured formal garden adjoining and wildflower meadow in front. Nice walks from the site, down to a river and beyond. Good Dab radio and Talk talk phone reception, moderate 4g. Much to see in the area, tourist friendly towns with good quiet cycling roads adjacent and plentiful. We recommend the Woodside garden centre nearby with it's great cafe, and the Greenhouse cafe in Melrose. The Harestanes centre nearby has a fantastic play area for younger children ( maybe take a picnic?). Overall one of our top sites!

A cracker

Stayed 2 nights as a stopover on way to north Scotland. A lovely neat site with cut and collected grass Quite a slope on the pitches - ok if no awning- levelling blocks are a necessity. Clean large toilet, good views of fields and woods from pitches. Very secluded and quiet, very dark at night with no site lighting. Tv good but no mobile signal (Three). Will certainly go again but for longer than two nights!

Excellent site

A lovely quiet site with good short dog walks down to the river on site. Owners away when we arrived but good info in centre of site plus friendly welcome from gardener Alasdair helped us settle in rapidly. Owner Diane met us on her return and was also very pleasant and helpful. Well placed for access to Jedburgh, Melrose. On the doorstep is Ancrum with active pub and friendly local shop and the great Harestanes Visitor Centre with a range of short/medium walks and craft/food/cafe outlets. Excellent value at £12.50 per night plus clean loo block.

Lovely & peaceful with thoughful amenities

Stayed 2 nights here in July...lovely. So peaceful with great views. Easy to find and very friendly owners who have an absolutely beautiful huge garden adjacent to the CL. There is a nice walk through the woods with a view down to the river. In terms of facilities there is EHU (I didn't use it) water, well fenced off waster disposal with tap, and bins. There is also a really clean and well kept loo with paper, soap and hot water as well as hooks and a chair to put things on. As others have said you will need levelling blocks but other than that perfect!

A Jewel in the Borders

Originally we were booked in for 2 weeks here, but due to both the glorious weather and this peaceful location, we decided to ask if we could increase our stay to 3 weeks. Luckily for us, this was possible. Colin and Diane couldn't have been more accommodating, although they were on hand if needed, they weren't "in your face" as some owners can be. This is a lovely, immaculate, sheltered site with views to the other side of the valley and with adjoining woods to walk in. No traffic could be heard from the particularly quiet B Road that leads to the drive down to the site. It is ideally located for visits to Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose, Hawick and more. We certainly can recommend Dryberg Abbey, Jedburgh Abbey, Floors Castle. We also covered the ground with trips to Lindisfarne and even up to Edinburgh to see HMY Britannia. One word of warning, you will need leveling blocks, but it is certainly worth it. Enjoy!

A hidden gem

We stayed at Ashieburn House CL for 3 nights From 12th Aug but could easily have stayed longer if the rain had stopped. As stated in other comments the entrance is tight as the road is narrow where you turn in and there are two stone gateposts to negotiate. However we entered and exited with our 22ft Swift with no problem. Sadly the weather was very wet whilst on our three week trip so the, slightly sloping, grass pitches were wet and care had to be taken setting up so as not to tear up the grass. The site is immaculate and well cared for. A very clean toilet is available on this CL. The water and waste points are nice and clean too. We were very lucky to see an otter on our first day, two Kingfishers on our second and to round off our third day an Osprey flew by above the river. So many places to visit from this CL. We loved it and would certainly return in drier weather. Thanks must be said to the owners and gardeners for making this site such a hidden gem. One of the best. 5*.
