Overnight stop only

Excellent position for overnight stop due to being 10 mins from M5. Small grassed area plus concrete hard standing area. 4 units on the grass and 2 on the concrete making it rather crowded.no views due to being situated behind large farm buildings. Some building work on a directly adjacent barn was a bit of an eyesore.Cow dung seepage near the water tap was very smelly. On the plus side there is a security barrier.

Reply from the CL owner:

We are glad you found our site excellent for your overnight stop. It is only a few minutes from the M5 but very tranquil. We are pleased to say that the building work on the adjacent barn has now been completed. The work was necessary as a result of storm damage to the barn in January 2016 and being an insurance claim unfortunately took a lot longer than we had hoped and was ongoing through the 2016 season. We have relocated the water tap and no longer store chicken litter near the site. We hope to welcome you again in 2017.

Very dissapointed

Sadly I can only agree with other reviews, this CL is not at all appealing. After a bumpy drive through a farm yard one arrives in an unattractive area surrounded with buildings. There was the choice of hard standing next to the manure pit or a grass area.

Reply from the CL owner:

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to say that we have made a number of improvements to our site. We no longer store chicken litter near the site and have levelled the drive through the farmyard. We hope that you will come and visit us again.

"In need of TLC"

I am loath to be negative for the sake of it, so hopefully my comments will be received as constructive, and improvements made.  It is unfortunate that on arrival, after initially travelling down a very pleasant farm drive with paddocks either side, you are then routed directly through the centre of what is an untidy mixture of sheds and barns complete with assorted clutter scattered all around. Whilst this is not that unusual on some farm CL's, they usually lead to better things. At the time of our visit the grassed area didn't seem to have been cut regularly, the surrounding margins again needed trimming and tidying. The adjacent very useful hard standing concrete area is shared with a redundant silage clamp, now being used to store what looked like treated imported manure, for spreading on to the fields post harvest (Trust me I know, I used to farm!) complete with unacceptable effluent seepage. Surely this should be stored elsewhere? The site toilet was clean and well presented with informative notices on display inside, but again the surrounding refuse and recycling facilities were untidy. Simple robust fencing is all that is needed. Poor forward planning means that an opportunity to integrate foul waste water disposal close by to the toilet block seems to have been missed, instead you are forced to walk to another corner of the yard and lift an inspection cover.    This could and should be so much better. Standish Court Farm is located in fairly tranquil countryside, handily placed for either overnight stops from the M5 or extended days walking the nearby Cotswold Way. It desperately needs a more thoughtful and committed approach from the hosts. Modest investment in a number of one off improvements would release the potential to profit.

Reply from the CL owner:

Thank you very much for your constructive comments. We are glad that you found the site toilet clean and well-presented and the information board and leaflets helpful. We have tidied up the re-cycling facilities and relocated the storage of chicken litter away from the site. We wish you had mentioned your concerns to us at the time and we would have done our best to address them as we are always welcome to suggestions. The site is now clear, tidy and mown for the 2017 season.

Last minute decision

Decided at the last minute to go away, wanted to practise setting up the caravan and wanted somewhere close to home. The site felt secure and secluded with views over the distant fields and the church in the background. The facilities were close by and easy to use. A great area to explore and dog walk. My son thoroughly enjoyed staying on a working farm.

A stopover only, close to the M5

Not one of the nicest sites we have stayed on, all the usual facilities. Mr Stevens welcomed us and was chatty and friendly. The toilet nearest to the grassed area you would not want to use, the rubbish is kept in there and liquid from a sileage area was leaking in. The newer toilet by the hard standing is much better. The grass had not been cut for quite some time. An untidy farm. Not worth £12 per night. Certainly not a CL to stay on for a holiday.

Reply from the CL owner:

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that we made you feel welcome. We are glad that you like the smart new toilet. We are continually making improvements to our site. The old toilet is no longer in use and we have relocated the re-cycling and rubbish facilities. We do try to keep the grass mown very regularly but at the time of your stay our mower had broken down and we did explain this to our visitors. We do have many members who come back time and time again because they enjoy our site and location and feel it represents good value for money. Electric is included in the price and Wi-Fi is free. We do not charge extra for awnings or additional people.

A Perfect Overnight Stop

If you're travelling north or south this place is 5 minutes from the motorway and the fact they have 2 toilets means you don't have to empty your toilet before you leave. Shops are close if you need to buy supplies. That's probably as far as it goes. The site itself is surrounded by unpleasant farm buildings, it has no views and we wouldn't consider it a good place to base yourself to explore the area....there must be better sites close by. So, in summary, a great overnight stop and the overpriced £12/night fee could just about be argued as you don't need to use your loo.

Great overnighter, or short stay

Just minutes off the motorway, but quiet and peaceful. Toilets, free wi-fi and a secure barrier at entrance. Friendly host. A bit rough and ready in places but all facilities work and are clean and tidy. Easy entry through the farmyard. Footpath nearby. Not the best part of the Cotswolds but pleasant enough. 4 out of 5 and well worth a visit.

Overnight Stop

Absolutely brillliant for an overnight stop. Very handy to M5 with clear directions. Extremely peaceful and quiet. Loo block was adequate compared to some you come across. We consider a loo on site to be a bonus not a necessity, you can understand why prices are going up if people are now expecting full CC site facilities on a CL, what a shame! A warm welcome from our very friendly hosts, plenty of useful information on display. Also very reassuring from a security point of view, to have a coded barrier in place. A true farm CL, would recommend.

Great stop over for M5 journeys

I used this site as a stopover in September 2014.  As a one-night-stand it was perfectly good. Directions in the book are clear and accurate, booking was easy (payment in advance required... but why not?)  Efficient issue of security code etc. for secure access. Access to water, loo disposal are good.  I note comments from other reviewers about toilet... but my van is sufficiently modern to have a toilet, so I did not use the one provided.  The recycling area was in the loo - which was nice and dry for sorting glass, plastics, etc The site was full for my one night stand but sufficient space (albeit viewless) was available. WiFi streaming was very useful and incredibly quick.  Phone reception for 3 was poor but O2 was good.  I did not try the TV reception. Host was busy (harvesting?) but responded very quickly to text messages when we needed site-based information. I'd use again - but probably not as a holiday base.
