This is how a CL should be! Every pitch is hardstanding (good for a 7.5 motorhome) and each pitch has an EHU and a water tap. Paul and Chris were there when we arrived, really friendly couple who were there of we needed them but otherwise left us to our own devices. We were on the island to walk the coastal path and we did two chunks of the walk from Alverstone Ponds. It is about a 2 mile walk to get onto the coastal path, but we took that into consideration and also that we would need to walk back from the bus stop in Sandown. We also cycled into Cowes to visit family one day. The cycle path is just down the road from the campsite & is flat and generally in good condition. Alverstone Ponds is generally fully booked and I can understand why. It has shared toilets which were always clean. There’s also a metered washing machine. Fantastic stay.
What a wonderful break we've just had at Alverstone Ponds Cl, Paul and Chris were excellent hosts and couldn't have been more helpful. The site is lovely with full service pitches and all very close to the local cycle and walking tracks. Toilet and washing facilities were spotless. Caravaning away from the mainland means you really feel you're away and on holiday and I can't think of a better place to stop over than Alveratone Ponds, thank you both.
We have had THE best week away....perfect camp site, perfect hosts, perfect weather & perfect location! Everything was just so relaxed & easy, no stress, just what we needed in these strange times. The covid guidelines were in place & adhered to. The shared facilities were kept spotless & were sanitised regularly.
There were plenty of places to walk and visit nearby, we will have to return as we only managed to see a couple. Several beautiful beaches were within easy reach including three designated 'dog beaches' at Yaverland, Bembridge & Shanklin.
We have just got back from two wonderful weeks at this enchanting site. Lovely friendly owners. Facilities were excellent and location outstanding. We had multichoices of which footpath to walk the dogs, located on a quiet lane surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, a must to go back again.
Our first visit to the Isle of Wight, so our first visit to this CL - what a gem, lovely serviced h/s pitch with an adjoining garden area with bench set, and free wifi, all for £15 per night. There is a small toilet/washroom, laundry facilities and information hut which includes book/dvd loan. Small dog walk, which is sufficient for first/last night constitutional as just a 5 min walk from the site brings you to the Red Squirrel trail, a level tarmac walk on a former railway line. Turn left at the former Railway cottage and a 2 mile walk brings you to either the pub or The Garlic Farm, turn right onto the trail and its 2 miles to Sandown, perfect for the dogs for off lead walking and cycling.
The down sides are - no pubs or shops closer than 2 miles so location maybe more suited to car & caravan unless you like taking the motorhome out (we dont) bearing in mind the approach road to the site is not wide, very undulating and not many passing places, or walk/cycle. We found the pitches fine but our particular pitch (Dogwood, in the corner) may have been a bit tight to get a full size caravan awning up, and finally, it would be good to have a tensioner on the door exiting the site to the lane/lake as several times we were disturbed in the mornings by others going through it and just letting it slam behind them, our pitch was adjacent to this door
Stayed for 4 nights in mid September. Found the owners to be very friendly and helpful. The site is well set up with spacious pitches and beautiful surroundings. Each pit is fully serviced and the facilities are kept clean. Could not want for more from a CL.
As per other reviews , booked ferry for us and saved us money , made us welcome on arrival , peaceful (apart from neighbours dog sometimes became annoying) , lovely clean loo and washroom + laundry facilities . Service pitch was a boon especially at shower time .
Would recommend to anyone , will definitely return when we stay on I-O-W again .
My only niggle would be the approach road , which along most of it's length , is narrow with passing places , so approach with care .
Won’t repeat too much of previous reviews just to say that this easily the best CL we have stayed on. Beautifully kept and obvious investments in the infrastructure by the owner with great little touches like the book and dvd library, the magazine and information room and the ever so clean toilet and washroom. Note no shower here, but the water is hot and good pressure. Chemical waste is spotless ( clever design) and water to each pitch and waste.
Owners booked the ferry for us and gave great directions and local recommendations on info sheets. Came out in the rain to greet us and show us round the site. Highly recommended , its as good or better than the big sites , bar the missing shower, but hey thats why we have our vans. Very close by ( 100 metres)a great cycle path, dog walk and nature reserve. Real ambassador for the island , we’ll be back in sunnier times!
Just returned from a 9 night stay on this fabulous site. Originally booked for a week but extended by a couple of days. Met by Chris on arrival and directed to our allotted fully serviced pitch. Difficult to add to what other reviewers have said and understandably a place people return to time after time - Paul and Chris unlikely to be short of visitors so if you want to try this site (which you should) make sure you book early. We'd not visited the IOW before and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Paul sorted out the ferry for the initial booking at a much discounted rate to any I could source and sorted out the amendment when we elected to extend the stay. Thanks so much.
We stayed here for two weeks at the beginning of May and I would be struggling to find fault with anything on the CL. Level, hardstanding serviced pitches - tick; adults only - tick; good internet access - tick; friendly but not overpowering owners - big tick. In addition, there is a washing machine and tumble drier; toilet and hand basin; recycling facilities and fishing ponds (we didn't use these so can't comment). Excellent value at £14 night. Plenty of walking straight from the site including a disused railway (now a cycle track) and a lovely nature reserve. What's not to like. Highly recommended and would use again when visiting the island. Thanks for a great stay.
