Wealth of local History
We can highly recommend this site. Very warm and helpful reception from Roger Munro. Site maintained to a very high standard, very spacious and great vista. Fresh eggs on site. Lots of lovely walks, Jurassic Way : turn left from site entrance and immediately left : follow outer edge of field “marked” follow to far corner : divides: left to outskirts of Collyweston where you can find a small shop ( papers/ milk/ bread ++) and a pub. Take bridle way left to Tixover Road or right to Easton on the Hill, Pub and shop.
Places to visit : Collyweston Church parts from the 11th century. War Memorial , / Medieval Bridge crossing the River Welland linking Collyweston to Ketton. Slate from Collyweston quarries graced dwellings in nearby Stamford, London Guild Hall, Scotland , Cornwall and the village pub. 1937 Aircraft crash landed in Slate Drift ( left from site entrance on concrete area.) Daniel Lambert 52 stone 11 pounds died age 40 years at the Wagon & Horses Inn Easton-on-the-Hill. Grave in Stamford Head Stone worth a read.
