In Filey at start of season - forgot to sterilise the water system - ended up using Tesco own brand sterlising tablets found in Baby foods area - worked a treat but taste/smell did hang around after copious flushing of system - I probably put too much in!

I have never used any sterilizer in any of our caravans in the last 30 odd years. I just run a full aquaroll of freash water through at the start of each trip. Never had any problems and I personally prefer that to introducing chemicals into my drinking supply. I suppose living in the Lake District we get blas'e and trust our natural water and are not tempted either to buy bottled water. It probably has given us immunity!Smile

Write your comments here...I agree with Tirril, To be honest we never use the tank water for drinking anyway, preferring to use bottled water to avoid any funny tastes/infections. We had our Coachman serviced by a mobile engineer last year and he recommended throwing away the water filter and using bottled water "like 99% of all caravanners". I'd be interested to hear how many of you do the same - surely not 99%

When first pitched I tell my wife to drink some water out of the tap, while I have a beer. If after three days of me drinking beer and she is still OK then the waters safe to drink. Laughing

But seriously, the odd occasions such as any tablets or diluted squash comes straight out of the tap, just as and when. Once a year I send through from the aquaroll water with 'Puriclean' added, not certain its doing any good but never been ill either.

We've caravanned for over 40 yrs and rarely ever bothering to clean the system, & never bothered with anything other than the water from the tap. We're still here to tell the tale!Laughing
