Warranty Procedures.

Our van, now 18 months old, has suddenly starting to leak in rain water.  The procedure, probably common across the industry, is that I take the van to a warranty-accredited dealer/service centre for it to be examined so that a report to the makers can be produced, and then take it back home again to await instructions to return it to the workshop, from where it will go back to the maker.

Is it not time that the manufacturers set up a scheme, probably involving mobile engineers if necessary, where the inspection can be carried out where the van is normally stored?

Caravans are not so easily shunted back and forth, as are cars, and fuel costs under tow are considerably expensive, particularly when a significant journey is required.  Payment for the onsite inspection would very likely be cheaper than the current shifting under own steam with present procedures.

Also, what about some problems involving additional damage to the van during this time, or even it not being strictly roadworthy until rectified.  All owners will not have the necessary experience to assess this lattet point.
