The easiest way to make touring cheaper

The easiest way to make touring cheaper is not to use CC Cub sites!  I haven't used one for over three years now, and use small commercial sites for out main Holidays (Absolute Max of £17 per night) but mainly CL's at about £12 per night usually including EHU..

Have just spent 7 Nights on a CL  in Suffolk, EHU,full service pitches for £12 per night (£84 total)  Beautiful site with no houses visible and grass well maintained !  So why pay double that and more for a CC Club site?

yes +1

What some on here seem always to miss, either deliberately or not, is that the club is middle of the road for prices, and in my view far better quality than those costing more. But everyone has to judge that for themselves.

The club appears to be doing better than OK, sites are still popular, full even in peak, and I just never see that with other non club sites. I could, and have done in the past on here, go onto a full club site in peak and then find spaces with those non club sites nearby. I wonder why that is?

I personally don't think the club has anything to worry about except getting more sites (and more HS) to meet demand?

Yes, I agree that club prices are just about the median for sites of similar standard on a like for like basis.

There are two things which occur to me - for many club sites there are several alternatives within, say a 5 or 6 like radius. Some will be cheaper, some more expensive. But cost is no guarantee of quality as we have found to our cost (no pun intended) on more than one occasion.

On the other hand, for some club sites there is no real alternative close by - Moreton in Marsh is a case in point now that Fosseway Farm has closed. So if you want to go there you'll have to pay the going rate, although if you choose your time it can and does work out a very affordable option (by which I mean under £20 a night) with little alternative nearby.

A canny housewife might shop in Lidl rather than Waitrose. Neither is "right". It's a matter of choice for the individual. This thread has pointed out, as was its original intention, methods to save money or in the words of a certain seaside character "that's the way to do it".

But the "canny housewife " in this area will still put everything from Aldi/lidl in a Waitrose for life bagsurprised

M, yes I did go to three club sites in a week (as you keep saying) but this was a whistle stop week between two sets of eye surgery where we had a very small window and just dashed away and booked them all together..

yes, I was lazy...I could have done more research but we happen to like Broadway and Cirencester and the club sites are very handy and very nice.

however, M-in-M was not nice in the least....muddy, untidy, the showers weren't hot in one of the days (same in the ladies apparently) and, despite being (even) more expensive then Broadway, it was the worst site of the three by miles...

we have learnt the lesson the hard way, we will not be going there again.

so, I am taking my own advice....thank you.undecided

off on Tueday morning well away from CC sites and the risk of being caught on one by mistake....wink

I wasn't trying to start yet another argument, BB. My point was that if one wants to visit Moreton in Marsh in a van there isn't any convenient alternative now that Fosseway Farm has closed. You must have been very unlucky to visit at such a wet time. When we were there in February it was a glorious, frosty clear weekend and the site and it's facilities were in very good condition. I think most reviews reflect this, apart possibly from the size of some of the pitches in the older area.

Though a lot of pitches at M-in-M are quite tight for space, on both occasions we've been, the site has been up to the usual standard expected of a CC site .... we even got my preference of a grass pitch when we were there last year.

After seeing the thread-‘C&MC sites getting too pricy’ & this one-‘the easiest way to make touring cheaper’ I realise the suffering the ‘Moho poor’ are experiencing. So, in my own small way I’d like to kick start a campaign. Come on everyone let’s try to help the Moho poor👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊

Re OP quote “So why pay double that and more for a CC Club site?” Personally to support the club thereby ensuring it continues to provide for its membership all shown in the drop down menus at the top of the page, THS’s, Rallies, CLs etc etc as well as mainstream sites.  Including this forum with its excellent help & advice. Using a mix of sites when visiting an area suits.
