The easiest way to make touring cheaper

The cc site we  are on is very busy and is so because of its location and the facilties on site and in a couple of hundred yards of the site entrance and one area(west side) is granite chipping hardstands and the east side is mostly large grass pitches with two tent areas  

You pays your money and makes your choice.  I like to keep site fees down because we don't use the facilities and if I can save £5 a night then over 150 nights that is a week in Spain in the winter, in a hotel. Also savings to be ,made, club ones, e.g. M6 toll, Road Chef, and others available, e.g. The AA give 20% at Moto and 25% in M and B pubs. School holidays we us the temporary holiday sites the other club runs across the holiday, often as little as £8 a night per unit. 

Having read several opinions on this matter, I can see most replies I agree with.  We used solely CAMC whilst we were working mainly for 3 reasons. 1. We could afford the charges. 2 We often had grandchildren with us and they loved the sites. 3 We knew exactly what to expect at those sites.  Now we're retired, funds aren't the same as when working, grandchildren grown up, and we can check out CL's & CS's as and when we choose to roam. Recently we used the Marazion CAMHC site in Cornwall, having last visited it when named Three Ways in 2002. It had hardly changed!  It seemed like a time warp! Having no toilet block facilities suited us, as we have all onboard.  However, we felt the CAMHC had let this site become a little dilapidated. In contrast we stayed at nearby Green PIg Farm a CL at Ludgvan.  Similarly priced but very well cared for and the icing on the cake, and a to die for view over Mounts Bay and St. Michael's Mount. 

We only on occasions use CAMHC because of the charges.  We have used many CL's & CS's, being members of both CAMHC and C&CC.  They suit are needs, tend to be quiet with good welcoming owners.  Some have tended to be down some narrow lanes, but have coped well negotiating them. Once on site, it all seems well worthwhile. Have learnt NOT to trust the SatNav, but follow routes described in the Club Site books.

Don't want to get into any arguments, but been reading these posts trying to see if you was going to let on to what site in Suffolk your went to for £12 per night, as we like going to Suffolk, nice a close for us, and always good to get a recommendation from someone who went there.

I agree with so many of these comments.  using CL's and CS's (dare I mention the other club) means that you have small secluded locations with EHU, waste and water and usually far more space.  We have just had two nights in Suffolk for less than one night at Crystal Palace.  I would say I am desperately sad that the club has been unable to prevent this site from closing as it is a hidden gem. It does not compare with Abbey Wood if you are from the south or south west as it is a perfect location.

The other tip I would suggest for economy is some of the CC sites with less facilities such as Gwern y Bwlch are excellent and no more than CL prices. Also Totnes, which does have toilets but no EHU. I would certainly not rule out the club sites as we use them throughout the year and in winter the reliable hook up and drying facilities are  very much appreciated

If you are abroad ACSI gives you access to a good site network at fixed prices at certain times.

The variety available with a bit of planning is extensive- we are very lucky to have this.

We are now finding the cost of Club sites a little too expensive.

Just booked in for one night - Total price £33.70 + cost of membership.

Local Hotel £49.00. Is it worth it. As many have said a matter of choice.

Some of the CL now provide very good facilities at far lower prices.

I had 4 nights at the Blackmore c&cc site with age conncession rates and worked out nearley £30 cheaper than this club site just over the hedge ( malvern hills ). which one would you use. simple choice. booked for windermere with the c&cc in a couple of weeks and again so much cheaper so will continue and save myself money. there must be thousands that don't use cmc sites because of this.

Wow! 1 night- £33.70?? I get almost 7 nights for that at some non EHU sites! That’s the difference between getting someone else to provide your facilities or providing your own and generating your own power! Will be off to Wales for 24 nights soon for the princely sum of £192! At £33.70 that would be £808.80!! Now that’s worth thinking about! 

For what my view is worth, I have had it with club sites. The petty fogging rules, pegs, where my car must be, the crowding and subsequent noise, dog owners thinking they own the place, uncontrolled children, exorbitant price for a bread roll that is named a baguette etc have completely turned me off. If it wasn't for the CL network, I would definitely leave. The discounts on ferry fares is also a major motive for staying.

Yes, there are dodgy CLs, and worse, some atrocious CL owners, but there are also some fabulous ones where you have a full service site at a price similar to those in France. The answer is to do your research.
