Returning from Southampton to our home in S.Wales we decided on the spur of the moment to spend a few days in Tredegar Park in Newport. This is in fact only 1/2 hr from where we live and we had always dismissed this as being too close, especially as, how can I say politely, Newport is not a favourite town, even though it is now officially a city! The site is however a revelation, being set in a lovely wooded area within the grounds of the mansion. We are off to explore the local area and it simply reinforces the old saying, ' a change is as good as a rest!'. Just because it is on your doorstep, doesn't mean you can't enjoy being away and exploring new areas! With petrol diesel prices so high, we can get here and home for less than a tenner!
