As this section is primarily concerned with money saving ideas, I thought I would relate one of my purchases today at the show. Since making the decision to come off life support in the form of the infamous orange cable, my purchases tend to be in line with that decision in the fact that I like to make environmentally friendly purchases and  preferably, save money and energy into the bargain. Well today that opportunity arose. One of the things I had regretted regarding going off grid was the fact that I would no longer be able to have a slow cooker. Well, today, I found the alternative for Non EHUers such as me. It comes under the name of Mr D's Thermal cooker which claims to save 80% gas! My safefill will go even further! It's the modern "haybox" and I think Pippah made mention of something similar. All you do is put your ingredients in and raise them to boiling point and simmer for a time depending on what it is but not long - 5 mins for veg and then seal it in the thermal cooker. The food continues to cook and keeps its temperature for up to 8 hrs As, using vacuum insulation it claims to lose 3-4 degrees per hour.  Great for the caravanning, but also on fishing trips out of harbour and and cold days on the beach during winter whilst beach casting for Cod etc. Picnics, and general outdoor pursuits. Hopefully, slow cooker problem solved.
