Keep the van in France?

I was reading recently of a guy who kept his van in storage in France.  He had found that he loved France so much as a destination that he was going over at least twice and sometimes 3 times a year.  So he looked around and finally found a 5 year old van in great condition. He took it to France and after his first holliday there that year, he put it into storage, fully ready for his next break. Then he came home leaving it there.  He tells me that what he saves on ferry crossings for the van more than pays for his storage.

Has anyone tried it?  Any Pitfalls?  I am told that there are some storage places that specialise in this type of customer.
