Gas fitting

I assume the two gas bottles are in addition to the one or two fitted in your caravan or motorhome? Be careful you may fall foul of the ferry or tunnel companies regualtions on how much gas you can transport on the channel crossing. If you are visiting Spain for a long duration I would buy a local bottle and the fittings in Spain. you will most certainly not be able to refil UK ones and this makes it very easy and cheap to exchange for a refil.

There is another option and that is to use Camping Gas, you can buy that in nearly all countries on the Continent.

agree with Peedee, i bought a Repsol bottle at the first site we stopped at for €15 or so...(I also had to fill out a form at the office....) and already had a Jumbo adaptor fitted to the spare pigtail in my locker...

repsol stations are everywhere and a refill is simple to get once you've got the first bottle.

you could even buy a used bottle here on eBay before you leave.

so, one uk bottle (to last until you've got the Repsol one) and then use the Spanish one....

Isn't there some sort of price regulation for certain gas bottle sizes in Spain or am I making that up BB?

Alan, Ive no idea about that....

all I know is that a 11/13kg refill is around €13 or so, very close to 50 cents a litre, even cheaper than LPG here at 60 odd pence and on a par with pumped LPG there....

bottled gas is huge business in Spain, perhaps why the cost is so low...?

I dint know which six months you are going but you may well include a period when you have some chilly mornings or evenings and Spanish gas is far cheaper than paying for metered leccy (as some sites operate like this) and it will be much more 'efficient' in its ability to keep you warm...

also, be aware that large fridge freezers (on 24 hrs a day) eat plenty of electric...again, these also run cheaply and efficiently on (cheaper) gas

Traditional vs Lightweight Bottles
First of all make sure you know the difference between the two main types of bottled gas (known as bombona de gas).

Traditional metal heavyweight bottles contain 12.5 kg of gas and weigh around 26 kg when full. They are subject to the government-fixed official price, which is reviewed every two months. Prices cannot change by more than 5% on each review.

Lightweight plastic bottles contains 12kg or 12.5kg of gas, are 50% lighter and are not subject to the fixed price. As suppliers charge different prices, compare and save. On average lightweight bottles cost around 3€ more than traditional bottles.

Smaller lightweight bottles are also available (around 6 kg gas content). However the price per kilo of gas is considerably higher.
