For your info.  From tomorrow, 24th May 18 Lidl are selling reusable cable ties, they call them unlocking type. 25 cm in length, £2.79 for 100 It is not very often that I see this type and they will save me some money.

I'm a cheapskate. I've used a watchmakers screwdriver to unhook them in the past so that they can be reused.

"CY", you are not alone on both counts. A thin strip, shim, of tin plate cut from a discarded tin can works as well and is cheaper than if you "lose" the watchmakers screwdriver.

"N", thanks for the heads-up on that.

I worked for BT 25 years ago and we used these to hold cables at top of telegraph poles. not a new idea.

Young friend of ours used to plait her own haynets, most impressive, excellent recycling! It was years before we lost habit of keeping a bit in LR.....emergency lead rein, emergency dog lead, short term fix for a busted gate, better than tights as a fan belt, excellent belt or braces......
