As Motorhome newbies we rather like the idea of hiring a car for exploring whilst on a site for a while.  Would be interested in members experience of car hire.

We had to hire one when staying at Chatworth when our towcar needed a repair, the club then had an arrangmnet with some car hire firm. They picked us up from the site, took us to their office, and then came for their car at the end. Most car hire places will come and collect. I'm not sure if the club has an arrangment at present

I believe the arrangement with Enterprise is still running. We checked them out in case we needed to hire a car while away with the MH. It worked out to about £40 per day on a fully insured basis for a Micra at that time. As yet, we've not needed secondary transport of any sort so haven't hired.

We are Mororhomers, so car hire is sometimes a "good idea". We have only actually done it once, when staying at Club Henley on Thames site. We used Enterprise, they were excellent. The only "odd" thing was, they wanted copies of Gas / Electric / Council Tax bills as proof of residence. How many people carry such things with them when touring around in caravan / motorhome? Cannot recall how now, but, was eventually able to satisfy their computer system that I did actually exist, at my home address.

I happened to be looking at an Enterprise franchise some time ago and noticed this unusual requirement.  At the time I just assumed that it was a poorly worded  'terms & conditions' doc and that this was intended to apply only if you did NOT present a valid Credit Card and ID ( photo-license; passport; etc).

(As I still have a (green) non-photo driving license, I have very occaisonally encountered the ID requirement, but a passport has always surficed).

The requirement is an anti theft one. The idea is to make you produce enough evidence of identity for them to be sure you are who you say you are.
