Twin bed, smaller camper van

Can you describe what you class as smaller please, June.

The one Rocky describes is small as are some of the Nu-Venture range. There are numerous VW converters out there but maybe that's bigger than you want. 

If it was me going solo, but wanting some comfort, I would look at the Autosleeper Mezan. Two versions, hi line and low line, compact enough to use as an everyday car, the low line would definitely go in a garage. Hard to come by though secondhand. 

If you want something ultra compact, our niece has a Citroen Berlingo that she has had converted into a camper. Clever use of storage,  purpose fitted. Rather snug for two though. 

The Auto-Sleepers Symbol has two singles lengthways in the van. You can also make up a transverse double bed easily. The van is approx 5.4 metres long. You have 3 travel seats (including the driver).

If you are able to get a Symbol ES (no longer made) the settee  converts into another travel seat.

We have a 2008 ES which has been very reliable (done 98000 miles from new) and has been fine for long trips and small enough to be our only vehicle. Ours is actually 5.65 metres as it has a rear step fitted.

Our first camper van was an Autosleeper Topaz (VW and around 5.3 metres long). Loved it but as we got older we found the two beds were getting difficult for us as they involved using both cab seats. It had 2 burners and a (useless) grill but a great shower/toilet room.  I would say it was ideal for one person and a second occasionally.

We then swapped to a small coach built (still less than 6 metres). I’m not that keen because I feel a bit locked-in sitting in it so our next will be another van conversion, either an Autosleeper Warwick which has twin settees at the back, or a WildAx Constellation which is 6 metres but has the beds at the front and a 3rd passenger seat. That’s more like the Topaz and with the sliding door open will give more of an outdoor feeling. Now all I have to do is save up. 

I suspect the OP may be looking for something smaller than the standard Peugeot Boxer/Fiat Ducato based offerings. I'm hoping she'll reply to my earlier question because we're rather in the dark at present.

June, if I were in the market to buy a small van conversion I would only look at variants of a VW t5 or t6 - the length is about 4.90 metres which is a manageable compromise between driving around and internal space. As has been said there are many firms doing conversions - here are layout diagrams  of a Danbury Active model. 

Idea of budget would be good as well.👍

Oh for the days of the Bedford 'Bambi' and the near identical Eldiss 'Nipper' and their oh so powerful 900c.  petrol engines
