Towcar Electric Connections

I have bought my first caravan and have promptly discovered that caravan electrics and tow vehicle electrics are not all made equal.

In my scenario, I have 13 pin tow vehicle electrics and either 12N or 12S on the Compass Omega 430/4 I'm collecting on Tuesday.

A romp around Halfords today threw up some adapters for 13 Pin => 12N/12S but here is the conundrum....

When I get to my new caravan, will I discover a socket to connect to or cables hanging down? Will they be male or female connector?

I have gambled on a 12N & 12S female connector. Will my 2 hour drive to fetch the caravan be fruitful or an unmitigated disaster?

Thanks in advance!
