Top tips for new to caravanning

I wonder if any seasoned caravanners could offer their top tips to a newbie to caravanning? Background to request  isv- we are looking for a 2 berth 6 metre length caravan with a budget around 12 - 15k -  would we have more choice price wise private or from your experience are dealers better given warranty? We will also need a car  - my ideal would be an automatic - are they ok for towing and if so any suggested makes? Many thanks in advance for any replies!
