Spain in October

Can anyone recommend touring sites on the Spanish coast (Eastern) ? We are thinking of touring with the motorhome in late October/early November. Will the weather still be reasonable? What are the pitfalls at that time of year?

Thanks.

There's a lot more to the East coast of Spain than the Costa Brava. There are many sites open all year and nearly all are good sites, depending on what you personally want. The weather is normally great at this time of year. Why not start by looking at this club's web site, then the other clubs web site, then ukcaravans.co.uk then Google. ACSI has another good web site.

Come October you really need to be south of Barcelona to get warm days and evenings. Valencia and south to Murcia will give you hot days and warm evenings. Plenty of sites open as the snow birds will be setting up for the winter,  some of the most popular site's will have some space while others you may be limited to how many days you can stay on one pitch and then move to another as they reserve pitches by number years in advance. Don't let this put you off though as October is a great month to tour. Have fun.

totally agree with TG, we have just arrived (hour or so ago) at Bonterra Park....i realise its not quite October but it is absolutely gorgeous here.. 25 in the shade and 29-31 in the sun....just what we wanted....at lastwink

we were also here in late Jan as part of a longer tour and have spent other 'winters' (Oct-Dec) several times.....

tne weather will obviously tail off slightly in Dec to early Feb, but for the most part, this is a great place to be 'away'.

Gold 'super pitches' at €19 most of the year, even cheaper if you go for other options than ACSI....

For a first effort away in winter, you cant really go wrong....miles of prom and cycle paths, through vinyards or via the coast to Castellon.....or further if ambitious.....beach a few hundred mtr, food far cheaper than France, mountain out the back to cycle up or climb....or both....

check it out....its just one of a hat full of 'over wintering' sites that are more thwn happy to stay open and sefe us well....

ps....Happy Hour is two hours long here, for those that lime that sort of thing....

pps...pitfalls....it is a long way, even from the Dordogne where we were yeaterday morning...however, we came down here in jan and the trip was....Cherbourg to Nantes (aire), Nantes to Irun on FRench/Spanish border (permitted overnight car parking) and then all the way to Benicassim in one day......clear roads, clear skies, set your own pace on an empty dual carriageway....around 7 hrs but a really easy drive and saved us stopping at Zaragosa.

good luck.

"Vilanova Park, South of Barcelona: A few days here are well spent as a bus from the site takes you into the city. Many "Snowbirds" spend the winter here."

true WTG, they do....however, nice as this site is, we found it a bit far out from Sitges, a far nicer place than Villanova el Getru, where this site is located....

in Sitges itself is another ACSI site, El Garrofer (and even another right next door, Camping Sitges) from where you can stroll into Sitges, a really lovely beach front town with great bars and restaurants.

El Garrofer (right next to Sitges golf club) can feel a bit 'rustic' on arrival (weve stayed before and overnighted there on the way down to Benicassim...) but the 'cow shed' looking shower block actually has some hotel standard loos and the most powerful, hot showers of this trip, all in lovely large tiled, roomy cubicles...a really pleasant surprise for those who might not know what to expect....

town centre 30 mins walk, 10 or less on a bike....

im pretty sure you can also catch the train for Barca here, too....

Not sure about the train BB but i do know you can get the bus into Barcelona from right outside  the site, takes about 40 mins.

On your recommendation we stayed at this site for a few nights and agree the showers are a lovely suprise as is Sitges itself.

from googlemaps, it looks like the R2S makes 3 stops (from Villanova) incl Sitges (and Castedafels and Gáva) into Barcelona BUT there is only one of these each day?....it seems.

normally, the 'express' (which collects at Villanova) doesnt stop at Sitges.....so busses more regular and similar time...smile
