Porch awnings in winter

We bought our first ever caravan in August and plan to use it year-round! In the height of summer the awning was a great place for our 1 and 2 year-olds to potter around in but I wondered what it would be like for our winter break at the end of December?

We have an awning carpet and playmats etc., but am I right in thinking it will be cold, damp and miserable? I was hoping we might still be able to use it to relax in but do hardstandings turn into one large puddle in winter? I'm not so fussed about the cold as we can put extra layers on (and I don't like the thought of using a heater - seems terribly wasteful) but really don't want to have to put the kids in full waterproofs everytime we step out of the door.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
