Our 3 MiFi was free with our contract, but charges are very similar for a 12mth contract.

Check out 'Skyroam' (www.skyroam.com). I have one and it seems to be working very well so far. Will work with any provider who has a signal in the area, wherever you are in the world. No need to lock into one provider then
