Parking during Journeys

So, we collect our first ever caravan at 4pm on Thursday, however by the time we leave the dealer it will be rush hour and I have never towed before.  I suggested we go to a nearby pub for tea to miss rush  hour, forgetting I would have a big box on the back of my car!!!  So to my question, what do you do when you are stopping for a break for an hour during a long journey.   Do you just find a big space in the car park or do you have to detach your caravan from the car and put them each in seperate places?  Sorry this is a really stupid question but neither of us have ever caravanned before.  (Other than the towing I am very excited).
