Paintseal or Similar?

Hi All

As you know we are buying a brand new caravan in Jan 2018 and the dealer thought that we may wish to consider having a treatment like "Paintseal" or "Tourershine" put on it this seems to  seal the van and stops its losing its shine over many years?

Anyone ever had it done to their Caravan or Motorhome? And does it really work?

Any comments really appreciated before we spend even more money (£399 approx!)

Our van is approaching four years old and the paint seal product is still working. Makes the van very easy to clean. Just a simple wipe off, first with water with a small amount of good quality caravan / car shampoo, using a wrung out micro fibre cloth. Then a wipe over with another cloth wrung out in clean water, and it comes up like new. It means we can clean it on CC sites without violating the rules. Useful as we can't get it home to clean. Roof  gets done once a year at the service.

The upholstery and carpets were also treated as part of the deal. That also worked well, when I spilt a cup of coffee all over the seat.

I would go for it again if we were changing the van.

I recently contacted Tourshine for a quote tourershine@gmail.com

It is a fair run out to where I am but the quote was £300. If I am prepared to tie in with when they do others in the area then £250.

I've had a couple of new cars done with a similar product and found that neither lasted for more than about six months but I recognise that usage is quite different.  However, I have polished our van from new, three or four times a year with Auto Glymn and after three years it is still gleaming - water beads when it gets wet and any streaks simply wash off quite easily - and it's a lot cheaper for the sake of three of four hour's work each year.

What I would advise, though, is that whatever finish you go for - don't be tempted to wash it with the usual detergents because that will remove any polish/finish in no time at all.  I only ever use the old fashioned Stardrops which doesn't have any salt in it (the offending factor).  I've been using it on boats for over twenty years and I wouldn't dream of using anything else.

When we bought one of our cars (midlife crisis 2 seater) the dealer started at a ridiculous amount to Paintseal (or whatever it was). As it was a used car I turned it down and oddly enough the price for the polishing tumbled. I gave in at half the original price quoted and had it done. On collection the remainder of the polish/wheel cleaner/alloy preserver etc was in the car to use again.

Moral - you may get it done cheaper if you negotiate.

We had it on the list van found it worked very well.  We also had the new car down but it is only 6 months old so too soon to know how long it will last.  We will have the new motorhome done and hope it works as well as the caravan.

I used Tourershine as well when we bought our van new last year.As I now have heart problems I can't clean it as often as I would like but a quick brush over with Autoglym shampoo and it comes up nicely.Hopefully will be able to give it a polish with Autoglym as recommended by them later.I also had the discount as he was doing another van near me.

some say that the car paint protection is just a very good way of dealers making a lot of money from you. The actual chemicals are about £50. Google it.

This is an entertaining example from down under but there are many UK ones as well.

This is for cars though which (I hope) have harder bodywork tan caravans or MHs. everybody has to make their won mind up. I got mine free for some reason.

I had Tourershine to our last caravan as the front had gone dull & "chalky"

they polished the whole caravan & applied the Tourersheild, we owned it for another 3 years & I was always impressed with how easy it was to clean & just how shiny it always was,

we bought our 840 new this year & it was the first job on the list!

If I hose the caravan off or it rains before the dirt drys on it looks as new if not better!

We had Paintseal done on our MH nearly 2 years ago now.  It's very easy to wash off any dirt, spray etc.  Normally some of it took a long time to get rid off, but not any more.  Also, black streaks are so easy to remove.  MH looks like new when washed, with a lovely shine.

My present car bought new in 2005 was paint sealed. Part of the deal and no extra payment. Washed probably 4 times a year with Fenwicks and given a rinse with Bobby Dazler. When the car was 9 years old we were on the first site of a tour ..... not had time to get mucked up. Two people admired the car and said how good it looked and especially for its age. smile

Never had a caravan done but might well do so when I get my new one in 2 weeks time. Probably Tourshine
