What experience do people have of the time for motorhomes to be built? We ordered an Auto-Trail Imala at the NEC show in October and although the original build date was April, it has now gone back to mid May (due to parts shortage) Is this typical for all motorhomes, is it just Auto-Trail or is it something peculiar to this year?

our last two new vans were bought from stock...despite 'reviewing' them at the NEC. Factory lead times were long and subject to 'fluctuation'.

so I went for end of season stock vans and I was able to see the 'actual van' i was considering. in fact, both times I was given a choice of several vans, with slightly varying specs, at the same 'heavily discounted' price and to agree a timetable for meeting the fitter who was looking after my van to agree the design of things like the siting of Sky system and inverter, the installing the agreed extras and the collection.

with such a far shorter timescale, the key dates are much easier to plan in and keep to, and we got the right van, at the right time at a great price.

the process (and the last van) was so good that we had no hesitation in repeating it (with the same Brand and dealer) when we decided to change.

id be happy to have a new van again, but probably not to order one and certainly not at the most popular time in the season's buying timetable.
