Hi, I am looking at Changing my tow car to a New honda c.r.v. 1.6.litre 4x4 diesel, my caravan is a Lunar Clubman s.I. with a  m.r.o. of 1320 kg and 1475 kg fully ladened, any advice from present owners or the honda c.r.v. 1.6 litre would be well appreciated, or any experienced caravaners would be helpful. Is the honda a stable and safe tow car, can a 1.6 litre pull my caravan with ease?

If buying new get a very, very good deal. The dealers will orobsbly not admit it however the current CRV is about to be replaced and there will no longer be a diesel. I personally think 1.6 is a tad underpowered and many CRV drivers report the suspension is on the soft side for towing but Honda are very reliable and the 1.6d is noted for excellent real world economy. I know someone with a 1.6 Civic diesel who gets approaching 70mpg.

Have a look at the reviews on line. Most comment that the 1.6 is not really up to the job and is not a relaxing tow.

You might want to consider similar offerings from KIA or Hyundai which offer 2.0 ltr engines.

Great thanks for your comments, I have a hyundai at present, I think I'm going to stick with the reliable hyundai brand and look at the santa fe. Enjoy your holidays in your caravan.
