All of you have been really amazing with your advice and suggestions, but now we really need your help. As you know we are totally new to all things caravan, and have placed a deposit on our first ever caravan, a 2007 Coachman Golden Laser 590/4.

We were perhaps more than a little naive, perhaps we should have been a little less eager but this is the caravan that we set our hearts on. We were aware that we would need to buy a new car to tow it with and had thought we had finally settled on a Land Rover Freelander 2.2 TD4, but now we are not so sure. The thing is there is so much conflicting information out there and now it's 12.45am and I'm worried that we have made our first caravanners mistake (which could be quite costly), and my initial excitement is slowly trickling away.

If we had to go above a Freelander 2.2 TD4 then I really don't think we could justify the year round running costs of the car and would therefore have to choose a different van and potentially lose our deposit. Perhaps this is the sensible thing to do anyway, and we were too ambitious with the van we chose but we would really appreciate your advice and opinions on the towing capacity / kerb weight of the Land Rover in relation to the caravan as to be honest we are now totally confused and more than a little disheartened.

Many thanks in advance.
