Garmin sat nav

We bought an Aguri just before our trip to France, having in the past tried a Truck satnav a Garmin and a TomTom one.

OH says he liked the TT but it wasn't the camper version, but it did remap quickly,( he changes his mind a lot)

The truck one was pretty good but would always steer you away from towns etc thinking you were a truck so weigh more than 3.5 ton, sometimes an advantage sometimes not. It did have a habit though of just turning off when you needed it most and the sound wasn't great.

Aguri is at the moment the best according to OH, although I've noticed it does seem to want to take some strange routes across country rather than follow the main roads (not tolls) OH then ignores it and follows the signs instead as that is the way he wants to go. This then should remap ( all others would) but it doesn't it just keeps trying to turn you round and go the way IT chose. Very annoying as you have to stop and re-programme it from the point you are at.

The inbuilt dash cam on the Aguri could be a problem for some depending on where you site it (we are ok) we found that in Europe it works better as the angle that you have to adjust it to, to give you the best picture from the camera also gives you the best view of the screen of the satnav. In UK as you have to adjust the screen the other way it means that on some vehicles the driver then doesn't get the best view of the satnav screen. Hope that makes sense.

I still have to sit and map read at times as OH just doesn't trust them 

My inbuilt TomTom seemed to have some strange ideas whilst in France, like TG's, ignoring the main route signs. Perhaps the best ploy is to follow the gantry signs and just use the satnav for the last couple of miles.

A detailed study of the map beforehand enables you to have a mental picture of your route as you drive and it is this that creates the confusion when "Doris" comes up with an unexpected instruction.
