First trip this weekend!

So our first caravan trip is coming up. Going to the Love2stay caravan park in Shrewsbury for two nights.

I have reservations about my stabiliser as it took me ages to uncouple from the tow bar when I got home, and I am unable to get the handle completely flat down once the car was out.

It may be fine...I will see on Saturday...hopefully I can hitch up without any issues!

We think we have everything covered now, just need to get there and find out I guess!

Wish us luck.

Hey guys, Everything went fine. Hitchup and detach was smooth....I found that once I stop, pull the car forward an inch and viola....easy.

Only issue really was this massive Trigano Awning....What a pain in the A**e!

Going to buy one of those air awnings...they look much easier...Any recommendations??

Malvern Hills next.

Have a look at the kampa 400 porch awning.  We are pleased with it.  Also bought the gale pump which is ideal lgood too.

The red bal is an additional security device, either bought separately, or as part of an Alko hitch lock kit. It is not required to depress the hitch stabiliser handle, and is not supplied with a new caravan.

Though the stabiliser handle can be very stiff, sometimes too much for a woman to lock/unlock, it sounds like you have a problem in that area. A strip down, clean, check for pad damage might be called for. Also, the extended neck on a genuine Alko ball helps the fit, but is painted black when new. The thin layer of paint needs to be cleaned off the ball before use.

Where did the OP say it was an Alko stabiliser? Good chance it is but the Winterhoff will not go down without the red ball, unless you trigger the release by putting your fingers up into the hitch socket.

Avoidance!! you have doubtless confused me.

Winding the jockey wheel, as if to move it down, (turn the handle anti clockwise)  raises the car to check for proper attachment.

OK, perhaps I should have said wind the jockey wheel so that the hitch raises up and lifts the car, and vice versa.

Hi Jhosk1981.  Glad all went well for your first trip.  We really enjoyed it when we went to Love2Stay.  A really good site in our opinion.
