Hi All,
I've put a deposit down on a nice used caravan, and I'm currently looking into secuity devices that will cover the insurance.
It has steel wheels so no option for having an alko secure lock, but I'm wondering which is best hitch lock or wheel lock? Or both?

Hitch locks are almost useless except at stops for breaks when you can lock the caravan to the car. When the caravan is on its own a chain or stout length of rope round the A frame is all that is needed to take it. All wheel clamps need efgort to overvomr, some more than others. Personally I would go for the Nemisis but this is my opinion and Milenco make good devices as well.
Whatever you go for make sure your insurers will accept it.

As has been said before, but I'm still sceptical as to how far you could actually move a caravan like that.
Probably you would not take it very far but simply get it out of the way before working on the device. Having worked in insurance claims all I can say is we knew they had gone and hitchlocks seemed to go with them, where wheellclamps would be found badly damaged at the scene. Wheel clamps are more secure and can be overcome but it takes time and can be noisy so the one with the hitchlock will go first all other things being equal.
Professional thieves have been known to have a metal frame to fit over the hitch and with a tow ball which works even better. and should enable the thieves to get further.

I have a Bulldog QD clamp that covers the wheel bolts and hooks over the tyre. Bit of a pain to fit but would take a few noisy minutes with an angle grinder to remove. My insurance company gave a 10% discount for it and another 5% for the Bulldog hitchlock.
