Hello everyone,

Caravan newbies here- just bought a swift sprite major 6 . How do we go about getting a number plate for the caravan? Literally have no idea how to go about this or the cost etc.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I was going to say, get the EU symbol put on it and if you go across the water there would be no need for a GB sticker ...... but with the referendum I don't even know if my EU plates will still be legal Undecided

PS: this is a non political post Innocent

When you stick it on make  sure you put the adhesive strips in the correct place, if the surface is not totally flat. Ours has indentations and when the dealer fitted it they obviously did not check. When we changed our car after 6 months and I pulled it off, it hardly took any pulling as most of the sticky was over the indent. It is lucky it was not much longer or I think it would have fallen off.

We have a potential problem.  We've just changed the car, but can't change the numberplate on the caravan until the new V5 comes.  Does anyone know if you can get a new numberplate by presenting the VC5/2 portion of the logbook - the little slip that you fill in with the new keepers details?

I've just found out the answer to my own question by ringing Halfords.  Apparently they can make up a numberplate with just the VC5/2.  That's good news for me.  I'll be going in next week to get one made up.

The tear off slip is fine David, at least by Halfords.

Cheers Dave.  Our posts obviously overlapped.

Take the one off the rear of your car and put it on the caravan for the journey, until you can get one.

Having a cherished number bought before the nonsense introduced over the years, I had a set of number plates from the first car I had them on, fitted show plates to that car, as it was registered before the nonsense was introduced and have an original plate as a spare.

The caravan dealer made up a number plate on collection. It was ordered at the NEC and we were asked the registration to put on the order.

As long as APNR can read the digits, I don't really understand what the fuss is about. Tongue Out

Danwestgate, when you get your new number plate it might be slightly curved. Don't just rely on the sticky pads, I went to my caravan in storge and found the number plate on the ground at the back of the van. It had pulled itself off. Put a couple of scews in.

It is illegal to remove the number plate on the car and place it on the rear of the 'van.
