Battery charging

we are new to caravanning and since picking up our van we have done a maiden trip to Strathclyde Country Park for a long weekend, followed by a two week 3 leg tour of Cornwall. My question is: does the battery need regular charging before taking it away. You see it is in storage between trips but a casual comment from a fellow caravanner when we were departing from the last site, said I would have a problem keeping this battery charged if the storage site has no facility to charge it?? The battery was new when we purchased the caravan. Now I think about it I have often seen peoples caravans/motorhomes on their drives with the ehu lead coming out and connecting to somewhere in their homes prior to departures. Sorry if this sounds a dumb question but we are still on a steep learning curve! Any advice gratefully received.
