Aquaroll pump does it stay switched on?

The Hymer water system is different.  Our last Nova had a rocker switch that swapped from the internal to external pump. This was low down near the tank but could be anywhere  Either of these pumps should only run when a tap is switched on so the pump in the Aquaroll shouldn't wrong continuously. On the outside of the van in the box where you plug in the outside pump there is probably a black rocker switch on our new Hymer this is used to switch the internal tank pump off.  

So in theory if you want to run direct from the Aquaroll, then you should plug the water pipe into quick fit connector and this should bypass the tank.  However in our experience the pressure from the internal tank is much better than from Aquaroll So what we do is fill the tank by placing the water pipe from the pump in the Aquaroll into the tank filler.  Switch the internal pump off open a tap to switch the Aquaroll pump on and fill the tank.  If I remember correctly the internal tank takes slightly more than a 40l Aquaroll?  There isnt a water level cut off so the tank can overflow, well ours can so you do need to be carefull 

Sorry the above is so long winded but I hope it helps a bit.   How old is your van?  I think Hymer have used the system I have described for years but the pump shouldn't run continuously but if it is it will be more than a slight hum if you are close to it  

The external pumps that drop into the aqua roll have a built in pressure switch, so should switch off once up to pressure, unless the pump is faulty

The other reasons are the aqua roll needs filling, or if  there is still a fair amount of water still in the aqua roll  ,the pump is not position correctly in the aqua rol,l ie not at it lowest point

 Finally if there is an air lock in the pump, simply disconnect from  the van, suck water through, whilst pump is a the lowest point of the in the aqua roll, and reconnect

Sorry I do not believe that this is the case with Hymers.  The pump is switched off and on with micro switch's at the tap there are no pressure switches involved. We have had 3 Hymer caravans 2001, 2007 and 2015 models and the water pump in the 2001 van would have fitted and worked without modification on the new van.   My experience is the pump runs until you cut the power to it by closing the tap or pulling the connector out of the socket on the outside.  

Ps if you are at all competent diy wise it is worth getting a spare microswitch as I have had a couple fail over the years. The taps themselves tend to be Reich and are pretty readily available from your local spares shop.   Most of the other spare parts seem to come from the Dometic group, IE lights and blinds etc

that was my fear boff either flooding van or burning out a fuse ,im going to have a mess around today was going to do it yesterday but it snowed so when we returned to van it was ph's on and heater turned up nice and snug it was too:)

That therefore means that a previous owner must have by-passed the onboard water tank, and altered the system to be direct on line

As  far as i know all submersible pumps are now fitted with built in pressure switch 

Opening the tap will release the pressure, so allowing the pump to work ,irrespective if the pump has a micro switch fitted to the tap, or not

The micro switch only acts as  a circuit breaker

However if the  pump  has no inbuilt  pressures switch, then either .  The  micro switch is  either faulty, and not  opening the circuit as it should , when the tap is closed , or what ever actuates the switch, is not operating the micro switch

If as the member implies  the  system has been modified , simple solution would be to buy  a new submersible pump with an inbuilt  pressure switch, and allow the pump to control the water flow as and when needed ,as is  the case in the vast majority of caravans.

The pressure a submersible pump can  crate, is not that great 

The main problem would be the piping,  taps etc not holding the pressure, and allowing water to escape 

A system that is secure would have no problem with containing  the water pressure from a caravan submersible pump 

attention BC if the pump is original it should say comet on it as the brand.  It should connect to the van water supply via a quick fit connector, identical to the ones used on most outside gas points.  The electrical connection is via a blue plug.  All of this is housed in an oblong box As I said this is the system have used on the three vans we have had spanning a 15 year period.  This pump should switch on and off when you operate the taps.  If it is running when the taps are off then clearly there is a fault and it needs to be sorted. Sorry if this is asking the obvious, but are you sure that it is the pump in the aquaroll that is running.  It could also be the pump in the internal tank which if I has no plug in it is going to be dry.  This should be able to be switched off by the rocker switch which is in the box with all the gubbins for the external tank.

All of the above assumes that this was a van sold as new in the UK continental version usually branded Eriba don't have the facility for an external pump and rely on someone tipping water into the internal tank.
