Achievement Unlocked : Caravan virginity broken.

Well we did it. We finally had the 1^st get away in our caravan. But the 1^st time – (like other events in my lifetime I can think of) is a bit of a hit and miss affair. Did we do it right? Was it supposed to end like that?

Our first time was in a local field; in fact it was a friend who offered us a 5-acre location all to ourselves with water and not a lot else.  On the outskirts of Bath.

We set up on Friday and were already for the argument that is the “Awning” but sadly for any onlookers we just spoke quietly fed the awning into the channel pegged and pumped. Whoosh – in 30 mins it was done. Even I was impressed that the marriage survived ! 

The Caravan was perfect bar 3 issues. The bunk bed seems to scrape the wall when transitioning between being up and down, the Grill will not stay lit and the fridge (also running on gas) started off with not being able to stay lit either. I fixed the fridge by applying all my IT knowhow by switching it off and on again. That worked ! It does seem that maybe there was a gas blockage – so will need to investigate further.

Everything else was spot on and worked excellently. More to the point the dog, wife and children all had a superb weekend away getting back in touch with nature, and as for the towing. What a doddle.

The only thing we would do differently next time would be to take more dish cloths and possibly a TV for winter caravanning, but we all did fine with Sky Go, iPads and Kindles, so do we really need a TV ?

For our first outing, I think we did OK.
