Dealing with potential damp issues over winter

We are new to caravanning this year and this is our first winter. We have a Bailey Autograph 745 motorhome. We want to know what can be done to keep damp to a minimum and how others deal, particularly with storage bedding etc. which would be susceptible to damp.  We are minded to seal everthing in vacuum sealed bags and leave in the van rather than store these things indoors.  Any general tips would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You do not say where you keep your van ,the best way to keep it free of "damp" is to keep useing it , most LVs are designed for year round use Wink

Close the door and forget about it (not literally) e.g. I always check inside after heavy rain just for piece of mind. I turn cushions on their sides to increase air flow, bedding I would not leave in van, I`ve never heated the van, charge battery monthly,  and I have never had a problem in twenty years.

I would remove bedding not because of damp but it might attract mice. I assume all water has been drained and would lift cushions to let air circulate and leave lockers and cupboard doors ajar for the same reason. Leaving the curtains open allows what sun we get in winter to raise the temperature a bit if you get sun on them.

I never put any heating on until a day or so before we set off on a winter trip. I find heating our caravan just encourages condensation on the insides of windows etc and it actually stays drier by not heating but keeping it well ventilated.

Ventilation is the key. We leave  all cupboard doors open and open the van door and windows at regular intervals.

M/H is on our drive.Every warm dry days the doors are opened. After prolonged rain/damp will put in a dehumidifier and heater for a few hours. We do use the van all winter so dont remove anything.

On dry days :- Open windows, rooflights and door every week or so and let the fresh air blow through the van. No need to use heaters or dehumidifiers --- if the van has good ventilation any condensation will disappear.
